Expression Sessions – Easily Catch The Best Smile of Your Child
Most parents are always looking for ways to easily catch the best smile of their children during photo sessions.
Capturing that genuine reaction on camera can be quite tricky, but there are tips that you can use to capture that
winning smile with absolute ease. To start with, you need to learn how to smile for the kids if you expect them to
smile back at you. Set an example to them by showing them how to smile like a superstar. Your kids are always
looking up to you for guidance, so they are surely going to emulate you if you show them your winning smile.
Another thing that you can do in order to easily catch the best smile of your child during a photo session is to alter
your perspective. Instead of taking the pictures at eye level, look for different shooting angles. You can either get up
high and shoot down on the kids or get as close to the ground as possible and then shoot up on the kids. By doing so,
you will be able to see the kids from a different perspective when taking pictures of them, and this will instantly add
interest. It will also be a great way of getting more variety in the pictures.
Experimenting with lighting can also help you capture your kids’ best smile during photo sessions. There are almost
endless possibilities when it comes to using light in taking photographs. For instance, side-lighting can be a great
way of creating mood, whilst silhouetting and backlighting can help to hide some of the features that you do not
want to be seen in the photo. Window light can also prove to be very useful when it comes to taking pictures
indoors. But for great results from this kind of lighting, you will need a reflector to put light back onto the shadowed
side of the kid’s face.
Do not be afraid to move the kids out of your comfort zone when taking pictures of them. Heat shots, shoulder shots,
and other standard shots can be great. But if you want to really capture images that will stand out from the rest, you
will need to ask the kid to do something with their body that might sound silly at first, for instance to dance, jump,
or create something. You might be surprised with the uniqueness of the pictures that you will get from such actions.
You can also catch the best smile of your child by shooting candidly. Even though posed portraits are great, they can
sometimes limit your creativity or block standard expressions from the children. You will increase your chances of
getting natural smiles from the kids if they are not focusing on the camera. Using a candid shooting approach will be
particularly good when taking photographs of children. You need to be able to capture the kids while they are
changing their position or pose in quick succession if you want to get great images at the end of the shoot.
