In the beginning process when I first started to make my film magazine I decided that I wanted either a long shot or a mid shot of two males in a suit. Here are some of the pictures I took experimenting with different clothing, poses and shots. I knew the quality of the images wasn’t the best I could do but I still went ahead to the next step which is picking the image I wanted to use.

I went trough the whole process of editing the picture I wanted to use and even made a mock up but I wasn’t happy with the image and the overall appearance. I felt like it didn’t look professional and I knew I could do much better so I went back to the drawing board I thought of a new concept.

After looking at different classic films such as the godfather I came up with this mood board

and decided on the black and white theme reflected trough lighting and colour. The black and white theme is a very classic theme used

for heist genre films because of its large meaning showing both darkness and light. I

collected all of these images to help me think of the type of shot I wanted and lighting.

Next I had to think about the type of front I wanted to use for my magazine I wanted something different and modern to reflect my magazine. After looking at other film magazine I decided to go for front number two because of its unique style and 70’s look. I had to decide between two names I thought of during the planning stages which was ‘independent’ and ‘hot sights’. I decided to go with hot sights because I the name is more attractive and is more clear that the magazine is a film magazine, The name independent can be any type of magazine genre and is not clear to the audience that the magazine is a film magazine. I wanted something which will pop and encourage someone to pick up the magazine and buy it.

Now that I knew the type of image I wanted I went ahead and did a photo shoot. I wanted the model to cross his arms (although its not visible you can still tell his arms are crossed), wear a shirt with his top button undone to have a more casual feel and make direct eye contact with the camera to capture the audiences attention. These were my favourite images from the shoot and I decided to go with the second one because I like the way the models head is slightly down and his eyes are looking up to the camera making him look dominate.

I opened up Adobe Photoshop element 12 and went to file, open and then selected the photo I wanted to open

I selected the crop tool on the toolbar and selected the area I wanted to crop, by highlighting the area I wanted to keep and clicking on the green tick when I was finished.

I selected the effects box and selected the black and white effect and I was done. I felt like the picture didn’t need any editing because I was happy with the quality of the picture.
