Flying to Leh, India over the Himalaya Mountains

Our Descent into Leh

Leh, Kashmir, India

First Attempt to Pangong Lake

Stuck

With no chains, and a visible layer of ice, this turn took us over an hour. People were running along next to our jeep throwing dirt in front of the tires to try to add traction.

Eventually the ice won and we had to turn around.

Pangong Lake Attempt #2

StuckStuck, same curve as last time. Another round of throwing dirt in front of the tires.

For 4 hours we made back and forth attempts at the patches of ice, slowly making it up the mountain

If we started slipping toward the edge, we would stop, reverse, and try the patch again

With over 2 hours above 18,000 feet only Ethan’s delirious confidence keeps us going

The Top

Reaching the highest point in the road, we begin our descent to Pangong lake, still at least two hours in front of us, depending on the ice.

Luckily, the snow has stopped and the sun has made our descent considerably less perilous.

The Lake in Sight

Pangong Lake

At 13,900 Ft, Pangong Lake is 83 miles long and stretches between India and Tibet

For the sake of perspective, those white dots in the bottom left corner are a herd of sheep.

Our Return to Leh

Back in Delhi

The trip was incredible. The scenery was too beautiful for me to include very many pictures of people. Maybe in a different slideshow.

Hope you enjoyed and expect more slideshows of our other India adventures.
