Final cover AnalysisThe masthead- Arguably the most important piece of text throughout a whole magazine, it is more than just apiece of text, it is a brand image and a selling point. It is so well known they can cover most of the name and still have it recognised. It is centred at the top because they want it to stand out the most, also you can see that it is one of the only pieces of text in red that also makes it the liveliest text of the cover. The masthead is a form that communicates with the potential reader by catching their eye with the red title that stands out on the magazine. The convention used is the red colourful title in contrast to the dull coloured background to emphasise the masthead.

One of the main focuses of the magazine. The fans of the band ‘PEACE’ will be inclined to buy this magazine because they are the main feature. This is a convention to have one main headline and focus in your magazine and to have it stand out.

The use of a main image used as an image is a form you seen on every magazine. It is used to attract potential readers by the person on the front. For example this edition has the lead singer of PEACE on it, an iconic figure in the world of indie music today. Having him on the cover will open up a wider market because of the amount of fans this figure has.

The side headings. This side heading lists names of other artists featured in this edition. The use of side headings is a form however using featured artist speaks to the reader directly as one of those names may persuade them to buy the magazine simple because they are interested in that artist. In this edition the side heading talks about the band ‘FOALS’ a very popular indie band. If a FOALS fan saw this then they may be persuaded to buy it. It is a convention to have a side heading as it informs readers of other featured articles in the magazine.

As well the side headings, adding another list of artists inside this edition again adds more value to it and would bring in more readers. Most magazines will include these on their cover, usually in small print in the corner, however still big enough to be seen and to interest readers.

The use of the barcode on my cover gives it a sense of professional feel; on other magazine covers you will also see it. I Also decided to add the issue date and price because it adds another layer of professionalism which I think the potential readers will enjoy.

Final contents analysisMy header for my contents page- firstly the colour makes it stand out and catch the readers eyes as soon as they turn to that page, it will then stick in their heads. Also the fact the DME is in bold will again stick in the readers head.

The photo- it is of ‘Harry’ who is the main feature of my magazine. In this photo you can see him in a different way to my cover, a more relaxed shot. The choice of clothes for this photo was to attract certain social groups as they will be interested to see what clothes he is wearing. The location adds a feel to it because it adds diversity from the cover which is just behind a white background, this again gives a professional feel.

This column allows me to give snips of the articles I conducted, a short of taster. This will give the reader an interest to continue reading before they buy the magazine. I also decided to have the name of the artists featured in red so that will be the first thing the reader sees when they look at this section.

The feature section- I added this section to again give the reader an insight to what the magazine contains. I also add page numbers to make it loos more professional and to help the readers find the specific interview or section they were looking for.

This photo was taken from a recent gig at the institute library in Birmingham. It adds the contents page because it shows that our magazine does more than just take photos of models, there is also live gig interviews and other aspects.

Development from preliminary to final

In my preliminary task- I was quite naïve to the software and hardware I used to create it. However through the process of learning how to use how to take professional type photos and how I managed to gain skills in Photoshop and other software's it all added up to me being able to create a final magazine I was happy with.
