Understanding the production of digital photography.

Horror film poster.This poster was taken for the sequel of ALIEN called ALIENS.This is a location/set photography as behind the main actor we can see a location from the ,movie which is the xenomorph hive.The picture is a medium long shot as you can see the whole actor stood in the frame. This type of framing would have been chosen as you can see clearly who the main character is and some of the location around her which gives ideas about what the film would be like. The picture has been split into three parts (Rule of thirds.). The top part contains the films title ‘ALIENS’ and the movies slogan of ‘This time its war’ instead of the first films :In space no one can hear you scream” slogan. The second part of the picture contains the main character from the first move Ellen Ripley played by Sigourney weaver. It also shows the character named Newt as well. The third part contains a large group of Xenomorph eggs which have a white glow around them which could mean they are about to open.The focus for the poster is a soft focus with a blue tint which means that people don’t quite know what is going on in the picture. The mise-en-scene used shows action based film due to its predecessor and that the including of multiple alien eggs and its title show that there will be more Xenomorphs present in this film rather than just the one in the first. The text has been ‘anchored’ just above the main actors head, this means that people will pay a bit more attention to this as most films have their titles at the top to make them more visible. It promotes it by showing it will be more action packed and epic than the first with the slogan ‘This time its war’, and the fact the the main character is holding a flame thrower strapped to a gun.It promotes itself to the target audience by including Sigourney weaver in it who, was the main character from the first so it will make people go to watch it and the fact that she is holding a gun will make it seem like on of the action thrillers which were dominate back in the day like terminator. The story the photograph tells is one of action and that this time the human characters aren't messing around and that they are ‘packing’ some serious fire power. The poster will increase sales as, it’s a sequel to alien which has a huge cult following, there are more aliens, there are guns present which mean lots of action and the main character is still in it which will make people want to watch it even more.

Video game postersThis photograph was taken for the Xbox game entitled ‘HALO combat evolved’. The type of photography used is a location shot as we can clearly see a area from the came behind the main character. The framing used for this image is a bust shot as only the top half of the main character is visible, the rest being hid behind the games title, this would most likely of been done so people could clearly see what is happing in the back ground of this image. This picture has been split in to three sections (Rule of thirds.). The top of the picture shows a distant planet in the top right and a part of the halo array (Where the main game takes place.) to the left. It also contains two alien space craft belonging to a alien faction named ‘The Covenant’ and the ships are called ‘Banshees’. The second part of the picture contains the main character ‘The master chief’ and some scenery around him, as well as what looks like a human vehicle being destroyed to his right, he is also carrying an assault rifle. On his left, there is a human marine carrying the same assault rifle. The third part of the image contains the games title, the company logo who made the game, the age rating and the logo stating this is the PC version of the game. This game was also available on the Xbox.The focus of the picture is sharp as the picture is very clear and it is very easy to see what everything is. The mise-en-scene used shows this as an action game due to the main character wearing power armor and an assault rifle. The including of alien planets in the background and alien fighters attacking human marines shows us that this is a action game. The text has been ‘anchored’ at the bottom of the picture. The title has also been written in purple text and has been enlarged to attract more attention to it. There is also a type of logo behind it which also attract more attention to it.It helps to market the advent as lots of people like action and shooter based games, including sci-fi based games. Proof of this would be the mass success of such games as doom and Wolfenstien 3D which are booth 3d action shooters. It helps to appeal to the target audience by the title being ‘Combat evolved’ and the fact its for a new console, which would mean new improvements to the shooter game genre. This could mean better graphics and gameplay, along with more fluid controls. The poster tells the story of a human/alien war that is raging and we play as a character caught in the middle of it. It will increase sales as its for the brand new Xbox and on pc which had master pieces like DOOM.
