The Ford India private Limited is the subsidiary of the US auto giant the Ford Motors. From
1926 to 1954 the Ford Motors had been making cars for India. After a gap of 41 years the
production has been started again in 1995 in collaboration with the Mahindras. After
acquiring major portion of the shares the company has been renamed as Ford India Private
limited. The world class vehicles like the Ikon, the Escort, the Mondeo and the Fusion have
been discontinued in India. Presently FIPL has the hatchback Figo, the sedans Classic and
Fiesta and the SUVs the EcoSport and the Endeavour in their Indian portfolio.
The Ford Figo an internationally acclaimed hatchback has been refreshed in 2012. It
comes in 4 petrol and 4 diesel variants priced Rupees 4.14 to 6.36 lakh. The top variants
have cabin features like 2 air bags, ABS, EBS, an engine immobiliser, central and child lock
facilities, manual AC, rear parking sensors, a rear spoiler, roof rails, tinted windows, and a
music system with Bluetooth connectivity. The petrol variants give mileages of 15.6 kmpl
with 1196 cc engines. The diesel variants have 1399 cc engines giving mileages of 20 kmpl.
There are two sedans in the Indian portfolio of the FIPL the Classic and the Fiesta. The
Classic launched in 2005 comes in 3 petrol and 3 diesel variants priced Rupees 5.06 to 7.68
lakh. The top variants have features like 2 air bags, ABS, EBD, electric ORVMs and a music
system with Bluetooth connectivity. The petrol variants give mileages of 14.9 kmpl and the
diesel variants 20 kmpl. The premium sedan Ford Fiesta launched in 2011 is available in 3
diesel variants priced Rupees 8.5 to 10.19 lakh. The Fiesta gives mileages of 25.01 kmpl.
The bestselling Ford vehicle the EcoSport launched in 2013 is priced Rupees 6.75 to 10.20
lakh. It comes in 6 petrol and 4 diesel variants with one petrol variant having automatic
transmission. The top Titanium variants have features like 6 air bags, ABS, rear parking
sensors, a rear spoiler, , roof rails, electric ORVMs and a music system with Bluetooth
connectivity. The 3999 mm long 5-seater SUV has a ground clearance of 200 mm.
The 7-seater SUV Ford Endeavour launched in 2003 comes in 3 diesel variants, two of
them having automatic transmission. The top all wheel drive variant has 4 air bags, ABS,
EBD, leather seats, electric body coloured ORVMs with blinkers and touch screen controls,
GPS and Bluetooth connectivity.
The FIPL has plans to launch the Figo 2015, the sedan Figo Aspire and the Endeavour
Facelift in 2015. The luxury sedan Mondeo, the hatchback Kuga and the coupe Mastang are
planned for the years 2016-17.
