engines: the innovative 2.0 litre TSI versions (125kW or

147kW) drive the petrol models, while the 103TDI diesel

version is a 2.0 litre TDI engine with 103kW power and

an impressive 320Nm of torque. With so much choice,

the Tiguan sets new standards in its class.

It’s good to know you can enjoy the assurance of precision

laser welding construction – increasing body rigidity for

more precise handling dynamics and increased safety,

a pleasure to drive. The eye-catching headlights are not

only elegant but practical, lighting up the bends in the

road with its optional dynamic or static cornering lights

featuring bi-xenon technology. You can even create an

open-top cabriolet feel with the optional panoramic

sunroof. Open it up to let a liberating view of the outside

Combining style and substance, the new Tiguan is

distinctively unique. The Tiguan truly is an all-rounder –

agile and comfortable to drive, extremely practical and

full of ground breaking technology. No other car has so

many different qualities.

The Tiguan inspires the senses – its engaging design

matches its impressive luxury. The Tiguan is clearly

Volkswagen-designed, but it is instantly different from

all the other models in the Volkswagen range. At the rear,

the lights are integrated into the shoulder section, while

the steep slope of the tailgate extends right down to the

bumpers, giving the Tiguan an unmistakable SUV design.

Each model is manufactured to the highest standards with

the focus on comprehensive safety features, top quality,

elegant styling and impressive performance from one of

Volkswagen’s class-leading petrol or turbo diesel engines.

Engine power is delivered by either the sporty manual or

the latest automatic six-speed transmissions.

Equipped with Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive,

the Tiguan exudes adrenalin-fuelled adventure.

The Tiguan 125TSI is an exciting combination of sports-

inspired performance with refined and responsive

handling. The Tiguan 103TDI’s Common Rail injection

brings extreme strength and fuel economy while still

being whisper-quiet. It features 103kW of power, with an

enormous 320Nm of torque, plus a diesel particulate filter.

At the top of the range, the outstanding Tiguan 147TSI with

a 147kW petrol engine is immensely powerful thanks to its

TSI technology creating 280Nm of torque for performance

without compromise.

Flexible Interior.

If the outside of the new Tiguan is inspiring, the inside is

amazing. Its compact size disguises an exceptionally spacious

interior. Using only high quality materials in its sporty design,

the new Tiguan’s spacious cabin is supremely elegant. Its sense

of style and ergonomic design create ultimate comfort and

refinement, with everything intuitively in just the right place.

The seats are upholstered in a stylish hard-wearing fabric to

survive harsh day-to-day wear while still looking great.

The Tiguan’s clever design has created maximum storage space.

Hidden compartments in the roof console and doors, as well as

beneath the front seats in the 147TSI, complement the spacious

luggage compartment. The rear seats split-fold in a 60:40 ratio,

and individually slide and recline, letting you increase rear

legroom or just create the storage space you need. The front

passenger seat backrest also folds down to give you plenty of

room for transporting bulky items (standard on the 147TSI).

Flexible Interior.

Comfort and convenience surround you in the Tiguan,

with an eight-speaker, MP3-compatible radio/CD player,

complete with AUX-in socket for external multimedia

sources. Fold down the load-through flap in the rear and

two cup holders match the two in the front. Whether

you’re looking to transport friends, kids, luggage or almost

anything else, you’ll find the Tiguan rewards you with all

the freedom you need.

Passengers travel in exceptional comfort, both in the front

and rear. Like cinema seating, the rear seats are slightly

higher for a better view outside to make the journey fly by.

The Tiguan also boasts practical features like a

multi-function leather steering wheel, a Multi-Function

Display ‘Plus’ and a height-adjustable front centre

armrest with storage box.

The Tiguan has an extremely rigid frame for maximum

protection inside the passenger safety cell, yet its body

panels constructed from high tensile steel, are designed

to crumple in the event of an accident, absorbing the

energy of the impact.

4MOTION all-wheel drive.All-wheel drive is vital for maximum traction and the

Tiguan’s intelligent all-wheel drive adds to its active

safety features. The latest generation of 4MOTION

all-wheel drive is standard and available with manual

or automatic six-speed transmissions.

The new active safety system standard on every

Tiguan includes ABS with Brake Assist and Electronic

Stabilisation Program (ESP). The ESP detects potential

accidents and brakes individual wheels while reducing

engine power to help keep the vehicle under control.

In emergencies, the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)

and Brake Assist work with the ESP to automatically

increase the braking effort. Three-point seatbelts on

all seats are teamed with belt force limiters on the front

seats to reduce chest impact, and three child seat anchor

points are fitted in the rear. Safety optimised head

restraints are available on the front seats. Six airbags

(twin front, side and curtain) are also standard features.

In an accident, depending on the severity of the impact,

the Tiguan’s safety features work together to protect

occupants by deploying the belt tensioners and airbags.

The system also activates the hazard warning lights, the

doors are unlocked, interior lights are switched on and

the fuel pump is deactivated. Pedestrian safety is also

improved with a deformable bonnet and foam sections

behind the front bumpers to minimise leg injuries.

Electro-mechanical parking brake and Auto Hold function.You can climb any mountain with the standard equipped

electro-mechanical parking brake and Auto Hold. As soon

as the Tiguan comes to a complete stop, the ABS hydraulic

unit retains its final braking pressure. So even when you

take your foot off the brake pedal, the brakes remain

applied to all four wheels, providing increased comfort

in stationary traffic. When you drive off again, a touch

on the accelerator automatically releases this function,

and your journey continues.

The Tiguan owes its high safety rating# to its rigid

body structure which creates a solid passenger cell,

surrounded by energy-absorbing crumple zones and a

protection system. The Tiguan’s lightweight construction

is reinforced with hardened, high strength steel to give

occupants maximum protection in an accident.

RCD310 entertainment system.The new RCD310 in-car entertainment system features

a large display, a single disc CD player with mp3/wma

compatibility, as well as an AUX-IN interface for connecting

a mobile audio player. This is standard for 125TSI

and 103TDI.

The powerful 125TSI delivers exhilarating performance

from its 2.0 litre direct injection, turbocharged petrol

engine. With 125kW of power and 280Nm of torque via

the 4MOTION all-wheel drive, and either 6-speed manual

or Tiptronic automatic transmissions, it’s a driving

delight. Safety features include ABS with Brake Assist,

Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP), and front,

side and curtain airbags. Driver comfort hasn’t been

overlooked with cruise control, semi-automatic air-

conditioning, and a Multi-Function Display ‘Plus’-all

standard on every model. Enjoy the convenience of the

sliding and split-folding rear seat, height-adjustable front

seats and 12V accessory sockets in the centre console.

TSI Technology. A miracle of performance.

TSI is Volkswagen’s twin or single-charged petrol

engines with direct injection. TSI combines FSI direct

injection petrol technology with turbocharging.

This innovative engineering has created high tech

engines boasting excellent torque and power output

at low revolutions, combined with lower fuel

consumption and emissions.

The Tiguan TSI engine is an innovative 2.0 litre unit

that saves petrol while delivering impressive power

and performance thanks to the turbocharger and direct

petrol injection. From the driver’s seat, all you feel is one

continuous, exhilarating surge as it produces high torque

at low revs and an abundance of power. You can continue

driving all day because, if there’s one thing the TSI engine

hates, it’s petrol stations. It’s as economical as many

engines with half as much power.

front passenger seat and storage drawers under the front

seats. It is the ultimate Tiguan. The new RCD510 in-car

entertainment system features a high-resolution large

colour TFT display with touch screen operation, a six disc

CD changer with mp3/wma functions, AUX-IN interface

for connecting a mobile audio player, as well as SD/MMC

memory card slots.

Optical parking system.The Optical Parking System (available in conjunction with

factory fitted parking sensors) displays a silhouette of the

Tiguan on the radio or navigation system screen during

parking. This shows the Tiguan’s position and distance

from obstacles. Any obstacle within range of the ultrasonic

sensors is shown in colour. This feature is optional for

103TDI and 125TSI.

Park Assist. The new Tiguan makes life simple for you. The Park

Assist feature acts like an extra set of eyes and an expert

pair of hands, with parking distance sensors front and

rear. Thanks to this technology, reverse parking has

never been so easy.

When driving past a parking space at up to 30 km/h,

ultrasonic sensors compare the available space with

the length of the Tiguan. If there’s enough room to park,

Park Assist automatically takes charge when you put it

into reverse. Accelerator, clutch and brake are all you

need to control as the Tiguan is then expertly parked.

Optional equipment (continued).

Off-road Technology.With the push of a button the Tiguan can adapt for all

terrain types. Off-road technology such as Hill Descent

Assistance, a compass and low tyre pressure indicators

let you go almost anywhere.

Owning a Volkswagen

4MOTIONAn all-wheel-drive system that provides the best possible traction at all road speeds, in all weather and road conditions. An electronic Haldex clutch responds to traction losses at the front and rear axles and directs torque to the axle with the best traction.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)When braking, wheel speed sensors measure the road wheel speed and should one or more wheels start to lock the ABS system reduces brake pressure to that wheel. This prevents the wheels from locking during heavy or emergency braking, enabling the vehicle to remain steerable.

Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR)ASR is a switchable traction control system that prevents the wheels from spinning under acceleration by reducing engine torque.

Auto Hold functionAs soon as the vehicle comes to a complete stop, the ABS hydraulic unit stores the vehicles final braking pressure. So even when you take your foot off the brake pedal, all four wheels brakes remain applied, providing increased comfort in stationary traffic. This function is released automatically when you drive off again.

Brake AssistDuring emergency braking, Brake Assist aids the driver by increasing the brake pressure automatically to a level exceeding the locking limit. The ABS is thus quickly brought into the operating range, which enables maximum vehicle deceleration to be achieved.

Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD)Electronic, more sophisticated means of regulating the ratio of front/rear brake pressure. Settings are varied according to driving and load conditions to ensure each wheel is braked to the optimum extent.

Electronic Differential Lock (EDL)EDL improves driving and steering characteristics when accelerating on road surfaces where each wheel has a different degree of traction. The system operates automatically and is combined with the ABS system. Using the ABS wheel sensors, EDL monitors the speed of the individual driving wheels. When a difference in driving wheel speed is detected (i.e. when one wheel starts to spin due to differences in road surfaces, e.g. due to water or dirt) the system brakes the spinning wheel, transferring engine power to the wheel with the best traction.

Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP)ABS, EDL and ASR traction control systems are integrated into the Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP). In short, ESP helps ensure that the vehicle goes where you steer it even in extreme driving conditions. The ESP system constantly compares the actual movement of the vehicle with predetermined values and should a situation arise where the vehicle starts to skid, ESP will apply the brakes to individual wheels and automatically adjust the engine’s power output to correct the problem. ESP prevents the vehicle from losing control when trying to avoid an accident, for example. It also prevents spinning off on a curve due to either understeer or oversteer.

Engine Braking Control (EBC)Prevents the driven wheels from locking if the accelerator is lifted very suddenly or the vehicle is braked sharply because a low gear is engaged.

Glossary


Park Assist*Park Assist actively helps the driver when reversing into parallel parking spaces. The system works by using sensors mounted either side of the front bumper together with parking distance sensors front and rear.

To parallel park the driver needs to press the Park Assist button and use the appropriate indicator before the car passes the potential parking space. Sensors in the front bumper then scan the size of the parking space as the car is driven slowly past and the driver is alerted if the parking space is big enough. If there is sufficient space, the driver stops the car, selects reverse and let’s go of the steering wheel.

Park Assist will alert the driver of the intended reverse path in the Multi-Function Display, within the driver’s field of vision. Park Assist then actively supports the driver by taking over the steering control and parks the vehicle in the available space using the ideal course. The driver can however take over the control of the steering at any time and end the automatic parking procedure. The system can reverse into parking spaces on both the left hand and right hand side of the road, for example on one way streets.

Park Assist cannot replace the driver’s attentiveness. The driver is still legally responsible for the vehicle. If the driver notices a risk that pedestrians, other vehicles or objects could be damaged or if they are uncertain of the risk, they will need to react accordingly and stop the vehicle, ending the function.

Off-road Technology*With one switch, off-road technology mode activates an integrated group of assistance systems that substantially enhance control in an all-terrain environment. Off-road technology includes Hill Descent Assistance which ensures by means of controlled brake applications that the vehicle does not go out of control when descending a steep hill. Hill Descent Assistance will only operate when speeds are lower than 20km/h, the gradient is greater than 20%, the engine is running and the accelerator and brake pedals are not pressed.
