Winter is here and the myths are more dangerous

than the real driving….

What are the winter driving myths that cost

more to drivers ???

Myth : Winter tires are

not necessary

Reality : All season tires or summer

tires get hard in cold air and start

skidding on wet surface

Winter tires are made for ice and snow and stays

pliable and perform better on cold pavement

Myth : For better traction, you

should under-inflates tires …

Reality : Under-inflated tires decreases the performance,

effectiveness, and safety in cold environment…

As per research, when temperature drops it ultimately drops the air

inflation “In every 10degree drops , tire will show 1 pound inflation

drop”

Under inflation can cause damage to tires so for better performance

follow the right pressure chart available in owners manual or inside the

car door….

ABS is not needed for winter drive

Reality : ABS takes more time to respond in slippery surface but it prevents you from sliding and skidding and gives you a safe drive

Myth : You should turn off traction control in snow

Reality : Traction control uses more energy and applies brakes as per speed of

wheels spinning … But in winter, the traction control systems are more capable

of giving a better traction and safe drive in snowy surface

Myth : A lower gear is important in slippery surface..

Reality : in slippery condition, selecting lowest gear produces more

torque and extra twisting force that lead to wheel-spin and prevent safe

movement of vehicle..

Select the highest gear that lowers the torque and gives a better drive experience

in slippery road surface..

Reality : Cadence braking is useful for vehicles without ABS but the

new generation cars have ABS installed that always gives a safe halt

incase of emergency …

Cadence braking is a technical braking that uses the brake and increases the

performance of braking on a slippery surface..

Myths :

Let your

vehicle

warm up

Reality : In current modern cars, the manufacturers use synthetic oil that

can start the engine immediately without warming up…

Myths : One should not change all 4 wheels into winter wheel….

Reality : As per manufacturers of the vehicle, for getting a better

traction and handling one should change all 4 wheels at the same

time..…

Using 2 wheels in rear means a fine drive but stopping and

steering will be problematic that alarms a safety issues ….

Safety Tips for Winter drive

Clear the top of the car, windshield and windows before moving the

car

Make sure to keep warm clothes and extra water with you..

Do not bang the brakes if it’s not

working …

Ensure to maintain sufficient distance when you park your car

Always triple check the

brake, accelerator and

steering wheel before moving

your vehicle…
