What is a project?

‣ A project is an assigned work that could be set by client with certain time period and cost.

When initiating a project it is important to get the needed information so that the project can be a successful one. This should be done before the project starts so that everyone is clear about what is to be done, how much it shall cost and

the time-frame of the project.

Scoping the project

‣ the business case ‣ business objectives‣ user objectives‣ the target audience, their present pro!le

and behaviour with the relevant technology‣ the proposed timescale‣ the name of the budget holder‣ the likely budget‣ the present technology infrastructure the client has available‣ any preferences for features

(perhaps they have seen some features used by competitors)‣ any known constrains‣ contact information with named people to consult and work with‣ the sign-off authority and turn-around time for sign-off

‣ irrespective to size or cost scoping is crucial for a successful project. ‣ Forced to start with little information? - make it clear in

writing exactly what you will do based on the information you got, but you will revise the schedule and costs according to further information‣ Involve your whole team and specialists when scoping

information
