1. A regional knowledge map as navigation structure and for “tagging”.
2. A yellow page section with profiles for users and organizations.
3. A community section where self organizing communities can collaborate.
4. A regional news section with controlled content from an existing paper magazine.
5. A weblog section where every user of the portal can run an own weblog.
6. A regional event calendar where every user can enter relevant events.

Hints: portal membership is free for every citizen. Used technology is open source software (Drupal) for easy replication.

Regional Knowledge Map (KMap)
Starting Point was the „Bavarian Cluster Strategy“(19 clusters, 6 in EMN).
Knowlege mapping workshops with knowledge communites from each cluster: Energy technologies Information and communication
technologies Mechatronics and Automation Medical technologies New materials Logistics
KMap Constraints: 3 levels of hierarchy, max. 5±2 entries per level.
Existing local Communities of Intrest an Contacts were mapped
