Envisioning Vancouver 2025
Client: City of Vancouver
Challenge: City of Vancouver’s Mayor Gregor Robertson commissioned Envisioning Labs to run an innovation workshop in order to propose technological solutions to address a social concern in the city: urban poverty
Solution:Envisioning Labs facilitated an ideation hackathon and innovation workshop that brought in professionals from diverse backgrounds and from several organizations including Microsoft, SAP, the British Columbia government, Vancity, NGOs and local hi-tech startups. The workshop rendered a total of nine proposals that were submitted to the City. Ideas ranged from digital wallets to poverty tracking and alleviation using a mix of low-tech and hi-tech (big data and machine learning) solutions.

Innovation for Employment Success
Client: British Columbia Ministry of Social Innovation / MOSAIC
Challenge: Reduce underemployment of professional Canadian newcomers in their initial five years in the country
Solution:Envisioning Labs crafted the design of a new service/business model that allowed new immigrants to gain experience in their field of expertise as soon as they landed in the country.We trained new Canadians in innovation methodologies that they used in solving real-world projects provided by sponsored companies. Participants gained immediate Canadian experience in professional projects thereby boosting their resumes and employability, while sponsor companies were able to obtain proof of concepts of an innovation that positively impacted their businesses

Maritime Monitoring
Client: Ocean Networks Canada
Challenge: Raise awareness of efforts to protect ocean wildlife while engaging the public in maritime monitoring
Solution:Envisioning Labs facilitated an innovation workshop and training sessions with marine biologists, developers, researchers, designers and members of the Vancouver Innovation Labs. The resulting ideas and prototypes ranged from live gamification of shark monitoring to crowdsourced harmonization of research data.

Luxury Cloud
Client: Ombrae Studios
Challenge: Luxury brands like Lamborghini and Louis Vuitton use our client’s technology to produce samples that took up to a month to produce. We were tasked with ideating a process and developing a cloud-based application to cut down prototyping time and simplifying the back-and-forth communication after a sample was delivered
Solution:We developed a cloud-based platform that allows any user with little or no training to build online prototypes and preview final products in real time. The solution was able to cut down prototyping times by 80% as users were creating, tweaking and visualizing the samples themselves before committing to production

Client: Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability / University of British Columbia
Challenge: Understand the commercial opportunity for the development of mobile & cloud applications for sustainability awareness in smart buildings
Solution:Envisioning Labs was hired to conduct an innovation discovery project with the Centre’s executive team and assisted in pinpointing the business opportunity that laid the foundation for the subsequent development of digital tools

Challenge: Create an online platform that allows remote team formation/collaboration and fosters the development of innovation projects
Solution:Gravit8 is a cloud-based software that allows the creation of innovation projects from a pool of multidisciplinary participants.

Client: Vancouver Aquarium
Challenge: Produce an interactive installation for the beluga whales in the Aquarium by which visitors can interact and ‘talk’ with the animals
Solution:Ongoing Project. Currently developing a speech recognition software for beluga whale vocalization that can transcribe sounds emitted by the mammals into visualizations/motions that the public can interact with.

Client: Destination Canada (target)
Challenge: Build the next generation of self-guided tour guides using augmented reality (AR)
Solution:Ongoing project. Mobile application of an augmented reality virtual tour guide that leads the user through the major landmarks of Vancouver and their stories. First prototype released in September 2016.
