Krispy Kreme Doughnut

Corporationstore 339 Portage, MI

This is a real setting and a real problem for employees but a

hypothetical intervention

Working with temperatures up to 360 degrees

Why Intervene?

HIGH INJURY NUMBERS!

Analyze the Natural Contingencies

Although it is more safe to wear gloves, doughnuts are easier to handle when not

wearing gloves.

I think a higher force is at work here…

Baseline Graph Description

Employees are wearing gloves approximately 60% of the time.

UNACCEPTABLE when it comes to safety!

Employees are to be above average at Krispy Kreme

Specify the Performance Objectives

The goal is to increase the percentage of time the employee wears gloves while working around the fryer so that injuries can decrease while the level of safety increases

Design the Intervention

Supervisor monitors employees and records

their glove use on a chart/job aid near the

fryer. If gloves are worn 100% of the time the employee will receive

an extended break!!!!!!!!!

Page 14: Final Fiesta Student Example PowerPoint #1

Page 15: Final Fiesta Student Example PowerPoint #1

Implement the Intervention

It starts with the employee, for their change in behavior due to their contingency they have the opportunity to receiver longer breaks while on the job (who does not want a break from working...!).

Supervisors and managers then have opportunities for raises depending on employee performance

Evaluate the InterventionThe intervention proved to be very effective.

Percentage of time wearing gloves increased from approx. 60% to 94% of the time. This is an unbelievable change of 34%, which surpassed the goal of a 30% increase.

Employees = SAFE &

Recycle (hypothetical)

Because performance dropped it became required to call the

supervisor to the area prior to working around

the fryer. Supervisor signs a sheet verifying that employee wears

gloves
