What is Sustainable Agriculture For Nestlé?
It’s something we do around the world and we call it CSV
NBS Purchasing
Some of Our Key Initiatives
− We are very active in this area for our key commodities − We look beyond the pure “buying” of the material to ensure that we
have long term sustainable production − It’s all about working together
NBS Purchasing
In Particular we are Supporting Dairy Farmers around the world
− Over 100 years experience in dairy − World’s largest dairy company in terms
of sales value − We buy 12 million tonnes of milk per
year from more than 30 countries − 5 million tonnes purchased direct from
farmers − Support farmers to improve
productivity and sustainability

Moving to the UK
• Taking these principles we are developing a scheme with our Partner First Milk
• First Milk is a Farmer owned co-operative producing over 1.6 billion litres of milk each year – approximately 16% of all milk produced in Great Britain
• I used to say “milk is an ingredient just like sugar” • I guess I was wrong!!
NBS Purchasing
So What are we Doing?
− Working with First Milk and their (our) farmers we will develop the − “Nestlé First Milk Academy” − We will pilot this in Girvan
• This factory takes 40% of the milk in this area:
NBS Purchasing
By working together we will deliver joint benefits
− A sustainable milk price competitive in the area − A development programme for Farmers to ensure sharing of information − Focus on water usage and best practices
− Working together to deliver the UK Milk Roadmap
− Using our resources to assist the Farmers
NBS Purchasing
Summary
By working collaboratively with our Partner (First Milk) we are able to:
“ensure we have a sustainable milk supply”!
