A. Measuring and Weighing Utensils
Measuring spoonMany cooking ingredients such as sugar, salt and flour, are white and thus
difficult to see against white or metal colored measuring spoons. Cuisinart has created a set of 12 white spoon (1/4 tsp, 1/2 tsp, 1 tsp, 1/2 Tbsp and 1 Tbsp) that make it easier to see the ingredient you are measuring. The measurement is printed in very large white numbers on the handle of the spoon.
Hold measuring cup
Easy to see large numbers on a light weight plastic 2 - cup measuring cup. In addition to making it easy to measure accurately, it has a broad comfortable handle and is big enough to be used as a small creamer or pitcher.
Good Grips Measuring cups The popular Good Grips(tm) company that makes all the easy-to-hold cooking utensils, offers a set of 4 measuring cups in black plastic. Since most of the ingredients we need to measure are light colored (sugar, flour, salt), it is easier to see them against a black background. Includes 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 and 1 cup.
Weigh Kitchen Scale
You can now take control over your personal diet. This digital talking scale reads out the weight of your personal meal portion. Friendly female read out. Easy to use, no programming needed. Weighs up to 26 oz. 9 Volt battery included.

Measuring Prep Bowls
Measuring Prep Bowls are the perfect way to get your kitchen and your cooking organized. Bowls range in capacity from 1/8 – 2 cups with the halfway point indicated on both the exterior and interior of all five sizes. The
melamine bowls are durable and dishwasher safe. They also nest, taking up minimal storage space.

D. Processing and Preserving Utensils
Ladles
As with other utensils, look for one that's durable, lightweight, slip-free and comfortable. There are a few specialty ladles which you might need, including gravy ladles and punch ladles.
Tongs
Look for tongs that can be locked for compact storage. Make sure the tongs you buy are sturdy enough to lift the heaviest things you will be turning, like steaks or halves of eggplants. You might also want some special tongs: salad tongs , which combine a fork and a spoon; barbecue tongs , which are extra long; tiny sugar tongs for the sugar bowl; and grippy ice tongs for serving ice at parties.
Stainless Steel
Steel is an excellent conductor of heat; use caution and/or buy insulated instruments with rubberized handles.
Steel can scratch the non-stick surface of pans.
Things to remember Fruits and vegetables contain important vitamins, minerals and ‘plant chemicals’. There are many varieties of fruit and vegetables available. Eat five kinds of vegetable and two kinds of fruit every day for good health. A diet high in fruit and vegetables can help protect against cancer, diabetes and
heart disease.
Types of fruit Fruit is the sweet, fleshy, edible portion of a plant. It generally contains seeds. Fruits are usually eaten raw, although some varieties can be cooked. They come in a wide variety of colours, shapes and flavours. Common types of fruits that are readily available include:
Pome – apples and pears Citrus – oranges, grapefruits, mandarins and limes Stonefruit – nectarines, apricots, peaches and plums Tropical and exotic – bananas and mangoes Berries – strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, kiwifruit and passionfruit Melons – watermelons, rock melons and honey dew melons Tomatoes and avocados.
Types of vegetablesVegetables are often cooked, although some kinds (salad vegetables) are eaten raw. Vegetables are available in many varieties and can be classified into biological groups or ‘families’, including:
Leafy green – lettuce, spinach and silverbeet Crucifer – cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and broccoli Cucurbits – pumpkin, cucumber and zucchini Root – potato, sweet potato and yam Edible plant stem – celery and asparagus Allium – onion, garlic and shallot.
