A car dealership in New York ordered 700 gas certificates to try as incentives to test drive and buy their cars. They sent out direct mail along with a simple ad in the local newspaper advertising a weekend event.

At 5:00 a.m. on the morning of the event they had people lined up at the door. They placed an emergency phone call to get more gasoline certificates so they could make it through the weekend.
