What exactly is Information Literacy?

• An Information Literate person has the ability to know when they need information, as well as the skills to find, retrieve, analyze and use that information in an ethical manner.

Why is Information Literacy so important?

• As U.S. Representative Major R. Owens has said: "Information literacy is needed to guarantee the survival of democratic institutions. All men are created equal but voters with information resources are in a position to make more intelligent decisions than citizens who are information illiterates."

investigations and use inquiry and scientific ways of observing, experimenting, predicting, and validating to think critically.• K-4 Benchmark I:

• Use scientific methods to observe, collect, record, analyze, predict, interpret, and determine reasonableness of data.

• K-4 Benchmark II: • Use scientific thinking and knowledge and communicate

findings.

understand patterns and relationships, and communicate findings.

that living things change over time.

• K-4 Benchmark III: • Know the parts of the human body and their functions.

atmosphere and the processes that shape them.
