Lechmere Canal Park Cambridge, MA CRJA 1978-1991

Creating Era-Evocative Industrial Street Furniture

To reflect the character of the Lechmere 1895 Industrial Canal my point of departure was to use the early metal manufacturing practice of configuring flexible units. Project Manager, Bill Taylor, termed the outcome as the Button Box Design which allowed either a pipe or a button on all sides of the cube “box.” The single & double bench and the light post designs are installed. The canal rail design impeded docking access and not used.

Compass CornersA Way Finding Concept

A solution to draw the Bio Park employees for lunchtime into theneighborhood fabric from city blocks of UMD’s Medical Complex Expansion is tricky. The paths are winding.

The Compass Corners allows access to the tourist destination points of the historic Union Square and the Hollins Market.

LSU Baseball

When I stayed to help my Mom the year of Dad’s terminal cancer, I met the LSU baseball team.

The LSU team’s 2009-2012 short stop, Austin Nola, is a serious, die-hard fisherman who comes to our family pond- a spur of White Bayou. He brought every ball player on the team to fish. The team was gracious and our family became fans.

Austin gave Dad the2009 LSU Championship Team shirt two months before Dad died. The team made my Dad’s last months good ones.

Nola has gone pro, but his brother Aaron Nola is one of LSU’s starting pictures. I imagine

Mom and I will always be loyal LSU baseball fans.

I began to sketch every day years ago in a small sketchbook as an exercise to train my eye as well as to discipline my focus with a ballpoint pen which later evolved into Micron pens.

Now there are books filled with varied images from The Met, Broadway, British scenes, my son’s sports games, to scenes drawn waiting in the grocery market line and tiresome airports.
