About ARTPOLIS 

It is a project started in 1988 in Kumamoto located at the center of Kyushu.    This project builds excellent buildings, and

creates a high quality life environment.    It aims at the improvement of the regional

culture and the improvement of the city culture and the architectural culture.

Misumi Harbor Ferry Terminal is a concrete shell structure continuously reinforced, like a conch, by a double-spiral ramp.

The cone is 34 meters in diameter and 25 meters in height.

In this project, great care was taken to reduce the building’s overpowering.

The storage, wrapped in a metallic membrane, floats above the roof. This storage, which serves as a symbol of the museum.

The site is in the northern part of the prefecture, where the Iwabaru Tumuli are found. That group of ancient tombs includes the Futagozuka Tumulus, considered one of the most beautiful examples of a "keyhole" tumulus in Japan.
