How do your strengths enhance your life?

The communication aspect has helped me get where I am today by getting to know people. Building my connections through communication has gotten me a division 1 scholarship at the university of Minnesota.

Competition has enhanced my life by making me strive for better. It has helped me create a mind set of never being satisfied.

Through rough times I have been apart of in my life I have learned to overcome them in order to still become successful. This is where adaptability has enhanced my life greatly.

Being futuristic has given me the ability to dream big. Being able to strive for bigger dreams than most people has made me set a high expectation for myself.

How you see yourself using strengths going forward?

I plan on using my strengths to become successful not only in my career but with life in general. I will use these strengths to build connections with individuals to enhance my future career. Hopefully I'm fortunate to have a family one day and with my strengths I will use them to provide and be a leader for them.

Influential People

I was always been taught to surround myself with people that were going somewhere in life. Not necessarily people that were going to be rich or have a lot of money but people that know where they want to go and people that know who they want to be. At the University of Minnesota I am surrounded by many successful individuals that influence my success as well. These individuals force me to strive for more. What makes the group of people I choose to hangout with a great influence is our competitive nature.

More then anyone I will count on my teammates, more like my brothers, to encourage and push me to become the leader I would like to become. Just as I will always push them and wish the best for them, I would hope they have the same mentality towards me. I want to become a more vocal leader instead of being just a leader by example.

Learning to be a leader

I will use what I have learned in this class to reach my personal leadership goals by understanding the difference between two types of leaders. There are leaders that motivate through fear and there are those that motivate through leading by example. From this course I have learned that although some people can motivate by fear, there are downfalls from being this type of leader such as: employee dissatisfaction, lazy staff members. I've learned that leading by example and motivating with a kind heart will have employers working more efficient because they want to and not because they have to. These are some of tools I will take with me into the real world on building a leadership characteristic.

Goleman stated that "leaders set strategy; they motivate; they create a mission; they build a culture." This is something that will forever be my equation to being a great leader.

Terry, R. Author of Authentic leadership: courage in action. Deciding What You Believe.

Through this article it made it clear that leadership is something that an individual isn't born with. This intrigues me because I know that there is always room for improvement when becoming a leader. The fact that leadership is not something you are born with means I will be able to work at it.

Komives, S. R., Lucas, N., & McMahon, T. R. (1998). Interacting in teams and groups. Exploring leadership: For college students who want to make a difference (pp. 165 - 194). San Francisco: Jossey-Bass.

What I got from this article is from it's title. The title speaks volumes to me because throughout the article she gives us insight on how to be better at communicating within groups. The biggest thing I got from it is the fact that every successful group has to go through stages. This can also translate in life as well. Every successful person out there has been through ups and downs but they were able to overcome.

This article had a lot to do with my comfort zone not only interns of this online course but with group work in general. Knowing that my conflict style is an owl, which is a person who likes to really have no conflict by agreeing with both sides, this helped me with finding my comfort zone with my group by also knowing their conflict styles. I felt that because everyone understood each others conflict styles, we were all able to find common ground and truly make it a comfortable working environment for one another.
