DESCRIPTION

Background: The City of Calgary’s Community Services and Protective Services (CS&PS) department includes business units that cover a wide array of municipal services from which all Calgarians benefit. These units include (to name a few): Animal and Bylaw Services, The Calgary Fire Department, and Calgary Parks. In trying to achieve their goal of “improving the quality of life in Calgary”, the CS&PS has launched a new initiative. The name of this initiative is the Citizen Service and Transformation Initiative (CTSI). Also referred to as the “Soul of the Community”, this initiative focuses on aligning the many business units that serve Calgarians into a cohesive and citizen-focused manner. Much of this initiative comes from other Soul of the City initiatives, including work done in the United States. The overarching goal is to better align services that the City of Calgary provides, doing so in a way that gets the average citizen engaged in coming up with ideas and solutions to best provide those services. Your task in this first assignment is to find out more about the CTSI or Soul of the Community initiative. You will use some models from class, along with your primary and secondary research skills in order to get a better understanding of this initiative.
