We all love our pets, however is some important information regarding your pool and your for legged friends.

If you’re anything like the rest of us, and love lounging by your pool, you know that a

quiet day can be exhilarating. That is as long as everyone is safe. Because we always

think of the safety of people near the poolside, we sometimes forget to include our pets

in that safety zone. Here are a few quick tips to help you remember how to keep your

pool safe even for the hairiest members of your family.

Depending on the size of the dog, you may want to get a life vest for your pet. Larger

dogs can often times make it out on their own should they fall into the pool. However,

big dogs can drown too. Big dogs can become disoriented, get scared and panic if they

feel trapped in the pool, no matter how strong of a swimmer they may be. Invest in life

jacket for your pets that spend time poolside with you or on a boat. You’ll be glad you

did and so will they.

Pets and pool chemicals such as chlorine can often times be harsh on your pet’s skin and can burn them just like humans. Adequate pool cleaning can prevent this from happening. Remember that dogs and cats can get allergies too. If you see your dog lapping up the pool water even if it’s from spill over, prevent them from doing this. If your dog has any open injuries don’t let them in a chlorinated pool. Anything you can do to avoid the area is best for them.

Pets and pool toys seem harmless enough. Toys like beach balls, noodles and plastic can be detrimental if your pet decides this is a chew toy. They can swallow pieces of the materials these toys are made by creating a harmful situation. Keep these toys away from your animals at all times.

Pets need sunscreen too. That’s right, by using a puppy safe sunscreen you’ll prevent your pup (no matter what the age) from blistering or worse. Dogs can sometimes contract anemia if they ingest sunscreen with zinc so be sure to use one that is pet friendly. Anemia can be severe enough that the dog will have to get a blood transfusion. Because suntan products can contain this and other chemicals, don’t let them lick it off of themselves or anyone else. Anything toxic should never be used around your kids or creatures.

Life jackets, avoiding chemicals and wearing pet friendly sunscreen are a few

important tips to remember when bringing your little ones to the pool. By taking these

necessary precautions, you’re not only preventing a hazard, you’ll find that your time

spent next to the water is more enjoyable for all involved.
