Search for Filetypes

• Most Search Engines can find documents written in: MS Word (doc), Adobe (pdf), Rich Text (rtf), Plain text (txt), PowerPoint (ppt), Excel (xls), and others

• Use filetype: to find only that kind of document– Resumes are frequently written in Word and Adobe

Computer Tips and Tricks

• Use Quick-Keys.– Ctrl-F: Find keywords on the resume– Ctrl-A (select all), then Ctrl-C (copy all) and Ctrl-V (paste): Paste a resume into

an email to your hiring manager.– Alt-Tab: cycle between open windows– Ctrl-Enter: to add www and .com to a site in your browser

• Besides Favorites, you can also link to documents, folders and applications from your Link toolbar in your browser

• Use “Save As...” and choose “Web Archive, Single File” to put good resumes into your req. folders.

• Once you saved a resume open it up in Word and:– Auto format– Use bullets to remove word wrap– Use Find and Replace to highlight keywords for your hiring manager
