Pilot Operated Valve

With a pilot operated valve, there is a minimum operating pressure differential required for the piston to stay open. If the valve is too large for the application, then the minimum operating pressure differential may not be achieved, which will result in a valve that will not open or might fail to stay open.

Solenoid Valve Applications

Page 13: Solenoid Valves

Refrigeration SystemsSolenoid valves are used in refrigeration systems primarily to turn the refrigerant flow on and off. A pump down system is usually used to isolate refrigerant in the receiver. A thermostat is used to open or close the valve. When cooling is required, the valve opens until desired temperature, then the thermostat opens and the thermostat closes.

Combustion

Solenoid Valves are used in automation, for the security of combustion equipment for boilers, furnaces and more, also for the oil and petrochemical industries.

Page 15: Solenoid Valves

Irrigation SystemsWhen a small electric current is sent into the solenoid spring, the valve is activated. The spring becomes a small magnet, coils tighter and pulls the piston backward. This then seals the hole allowing air into the chamber. Without this pressure, the diaphragm is pushed out of the way by the incoming water, allowing the water to freely pass through the irrigation solenoid valve. When the current stops, air pressure comes back into the valve and closes the diaphragm.

Food Processing Machinery

Solenoid valves are used in many food processing machines, such as Bottle Washers, Poultry Feeding Systems, Hen House Wash-down Systems. They are also used in Bakeries in Pot/Pan Cleaning Spray Arms and Bun Warmers. All work accordingly when solenoid valves allow liquid or gas through according to an electric current.
