Story of Archimedes “EUREKA !”

• One of the oldest and well-known Archimedes Legendary

• King of the land in Syracuse gave some gold to a goldsmith to make a Golden Crown

• Weight of the crown was equal to the gold given

• Suspicion of the color of the crown

• Finding out to the truth

• Archimedes thought about the problem day and night

• Having bath but busy thinking

• Water in the bath tub already full to the brim

• Slid into the bathtub

• A large quantity of water flowed over the brim of the bath tub

• Brain wave worked suddenly

• Jumped out and shouting, “EUREKA !”

• Ran naked on the streets

Greek meaning of “EUREKA !”

• "Eureka" comes from the Ancient Greek word εὕρηκα

heúrēka, meaning "I have found (it)", which is the first

person singular perfect indicative active of the verb

εὑρίσκω heuriskō "I find”.

• It is closely related to heuristic, which refers to experience-

based techniques for problem solving, learning, and

discovery.
