HOW to find the dollars needed?

• Seek advice from your local community, businesses, Parents and Citizens groups and Council.

Writing the successful application

1. Have your project well thought out before you start.

What you want your project to achieve. Needs of the school, students and community. People you need to talk to. Staff commitment, time and energy.

2. Check you are an eligible applicant

Some grants are not available to schools directly, however P & C’s are profitable organisations which allows you to access grants through them.

3. Check that your proposed activities are eligible for funding.

Read guidelines carefully! Seek others opinions and advice if you are unsure.

4. Apply for any permits (health, planning, building) prior to submitting application.

These can take time to process so best to do prior to application.

5. Consult with local experts and community including indigenous community about grant.

6. Read the fine print carefully.

Check and recheck your information

7. Contributions- check whether school has to contribute to total costs.

Some grants require extra dollars or in-kind (volunteer labour, use of equipment) from the school.

8. Speak to school’s financial officer prior to sending in application to unsure necessary funds and setup cost centers.

9. Budget Budget Budget.Collect quotes with at least 3 months validation dates.

10. Check quality of application.Head of English etc, Correct grammar and sentence structure is crucial to a great application

Jargon

• Many organizations don’t understand EQ Jargon, so don’t use it in application.

• Explain acronyms clearly.

• Don’t overuse them.

• Electronic submissions

Use templates suppliedDon’t change font sizes to fit more in.

• Paper submissions

• Check dates

• Make your all PARTIES sign in the appropriate places.

• Make sure you mail applications at least one week before closing dates.

• Keep at least 3 copies of application.
