Why a consultant is required?

Consultant is a person with previous experience of similar projects. Consultant works as an advisor and a

project manager. He can protect your organization from costly mistakes. He already had experience and

knows the details involved in the project. He has good contacts in the market and can get you multiple

solutions based on various products to best suite your budget.

What is the alternative if we do not want consultant? Can my IT team do it? In general organization should have a senior IT manager and a project manager to do the job. These are

costly resources and small organization (having less than 500 PCs) may not be able to utilize their skills

throughout the year. At the end of project they may become a liability. Consultants are hired for small

period of time for the duration of project only and thus more cost effective.

Why can’t my contractor/supplier/vendor do this job?

1). Most of the time the contractor should be able provide complete solution. However if the solution

required products and services from multiple vendors, than the client will need a technical project

manager to coordinate and supervise the project.

2). The risk is contractor may build the solution around his product and to the best of his interest. He

may provide an over sized solution to make money or he may not have the right product & services for

you and give you a compromised or undersize, short term solution.

What is cost of senior IT manager/GM IT for a medium size organization?

A position of GM IT will cost an organization in Pakistan between Rs. 200,000/- and 500,000/- per month

plus other benefits. Cost depends upon the complexity of IT setup and size of team to be handled.

Generally a team of ten to twenty persons is considered as medium size setup.

What is the cost of IT consultant?

An IT Consultant can help an organization at a fraction of the cost of a full-time employee. In

Pakistan they cost between Rs. 5,000/- and 20,000/- per day. The cost per month is dependent upon the

actual utilization of time and thus more cost effective and productive.
