WHAT IS EVOCATIVE ARCHITECTURE ?

The term evocative refers to bringing strong images, memories, or feelings to mind.

A piece of architecture regenerates different emotions in different minds.

 Architecture space having certain atmosphere influence the emotional state of a person.

Even just looking at the pictures of the architecture masterpieces the idea and desire of an architect to communicate a particular message through his works gets clear and obvious.

Aim : To study how architecture evokes emotions.

Objective : To understand what is evocative architecture?                    Understand the role of architects in evoking 

certain                    emotions through his buildings.                         Understand various factors which evokes emotions                    into the people as an user.

Methodology : Study of masterpieces of famous architects.                          Study of a live example of a building.                          Comparison between the architect’s                           philosophy and how the user feels that space.                                                  

1.Tadao Ando ­ The famous minimalist                             architect

Name: Church of light

-Built in 1989 in the city of Ibarki, Osaka.-Dual nature of existence.-Emptiness as profound feature.-It is meant to invade the occupant so there is a room for the spiritual to fill them.

2. Santiago CalatravaValencia City of arts and science-It represents a correlation between spectator, musician, and artist.- A blend of seagoing vessel and spacecraft, prehistoric trilobite or a giant warrior’s helmet.-Derived its form from human body or from the wing of a bird.

3. Zaha Hadid – The queen of curveOlympic stadium at TokyoHeydar aliyew cultural center at Baku, Azerbaijan-It gives a feeling of whole,without structure, but their shapes mask extreme engineering.-Seamlessly connecting the elements to create silhouette that integrates with the city.-Expresses the soft and romantic side of Azeri culture.

4. Frank Gehry Guggenheim Museum at Bilbao, Spain-The curves on the exterior of the building were intended to appear Random.-Expresses feeling in three dimensional objects.-The building has brought attention to Bilbao, but many think it as a distraction.

-Inspiration from land, materials, climate and local context.-Harmony with nature.-Traditional architecture.

Comparing… 

• User in the campus feel more pleasant in the campus because of the green environment.

• It totally gives a look of a vernacular architecture. • The typical traditional look gives a homely feeling.• Feels close to nature.• Different  from the typical campus design usually 

seen. 

Conclusion 

Unfortunately,  buildings do not speak any human language . That is why architects use a particular language to enable communication between buildings and people.

This language uses geometric shapes, dimensions, colours and textures to express the idea and arouse necessary emotions in the human soul.  

The more bold element used in a building the strong is the reaction to that building in that particular context.
