1 Overview
1.1 Summary of Scenario
Leo Foster works as a local purchaser for an international company - headquartered in Berlin, Germany - selling PC systems and accessories. The IT equipment of the company consists primarily of three business systems (America, Asia and Europe) to cover and support all business processes all over the world. To achieve harmonized and consistent master data records in all of the three business systems, SAP’s Master Data Management (MDM) has been placed into the IT infrastructure.
Leo Foster needs a special supplier in his business system America in order to execute purchasing processes driven by the local business system. He navigates to the central master data server (MDS), using a web-based portal interface. He searches centrally in the company’s supplier database to locate information about the said supplier. He cannot retrieve any suitable record for the supplier he needs. As a local purchaser, Leo Foster is not in the position to create a new supplier record on the MDS. In order to trigger the creation of the new supplier in his local business system, he has to fill-in an electronic request form which later needs to be approved by the responsible global master data specialist, Steven Miller, who works in the company’s central purchasing department in Berlin.
The master data specialist, Steven Miller, receives a notification in his Universal Work List (UWL) that a new customer record should be created. From within the notification he reviews the request. He completes the request, checks for duplicates and approves the new master data record.
Steven Miller makes sure that the new supplier record will be distributed to Leo Foster’s business system America.
After that, Leo Foster can keep on working with the new created supplier master record
