ShadowShopper: Applying For Mystery Shopping Jobs When you are considering applying for a mystery shopping job, often referred to as a “shop,” make sure that your shopper profiles are current, especially contact information and addresses, and as complete as possible. Include your typical travel distance and areas that you visit often or may be willing to travel to. Include preferred zip codes or cities and equipment, such as digital cameras and fax machines, which may be required for an assignment. Proofread to catch any mistakes, and remember that the entire profile is a writing sample. To a company or scheduler, the manner in which you complete your shopper profile could be a good indication of how you may complete online reports. When you receive a shop offer from ShadowShopper.com, there should be instructions for requesting or accepting the shop. The post will instruct you where to register, how to request the shop, or if applicable, how to self-assign the shop. Each company and project is different, so read and follow all instructions carefully before applying. Please make absolutely sure that you have registered at all websites included in the shop post. It is not uncommon for a shopper to be required to register with both a Mystery Shopping Provider and a Scheduling Company or with two collaborating Mystery Shopping Providers in order to be eligible to receive or apply for an assignment. When applying for a shop through ShadowShopper.com, you are expressing interest in the shop. The scheduler receives your application and can either contact you or, if you have completed the appropriate registration, may even schedule the shop to you. In both cases, you should have the opportunity to either accept or decline the assignment. Applying for the shop or expressing interest in the shop does not mean that you are obligated to complete the shop. Once confirmed or accepted, though, it's your responsibility to complete the assignment. Schedulers typically do not reply to all requests they receive, because they receive hundreds of emails per day and multiple requests per shop. There simply isn't enough time to reply to them all. Please, don't be offended if you do not receive notification on the occasions when you are not awarded the shop. Sometimes the directions will include a registration link with instructions to email the scheduler with, "XYZ Shops" in the subject line. If the scheduler's contact information is included, it's a great idea to send them an email to express interest in the shop once you are certain that you have followed all of the instructions included in the job post. Failing to follow instructions or include required information in a shopper profile or email response will likely get you passed over. Often, schedulers are so busy that they do not have the time to request the information more than once. Please also remember not to send schedulers emails that read, "Send me more information" or, "Tell me more." First of all, schedulers do not have time to do that, and secondly, it's a pretty safe bet that everything they can tell you is already included in the shop description, either in the job post or on the company's website or job board. If you are not registered or have not been selected to work on a particular project, they may not be able to give you any further information or details due to confidentiality issues. Remember, this is an important opportunity to demonstrate your ability to read and follow instructions, which is imperative for the successful execution of any assignment. So, put your best foot forward! Stand up and stand out, and demonstrate during the application process why you are the right candidate for the job. http://www.shadowshopper.com
