NOTE: THE INFORMATION IN THIS PRESENTATION MAY NOW BE OUTDATED. In this informal session, a former overseas teacher will discuss her experiences after 4 years of teaching in England. Topics discussed will be: obtaining a job, preparing to move, getting settled, an overview of the English school system, and how to enjoy your new life abroad. If you have already decided to teach in England, or are thinking about the possibility, don't miss these tips and tricks.

Getting SettledGetting Settled A good agency will:

- help sort out a Visa- pick you up at the airport- arrange short term

accommodation- get you a Bank account- help you apply for a NIN- provide training and advice- plan socials so you can meet

other overseas teachers

- Two options: 1. Renting a house/flat from a local estate

agent. 2. Renting a room in a house/flat

Money- Your agency should set you up with a bank account. - Credit cards are hard to get.- You get paid by the agency, not the school.- Usually you will get paid every 2 weeks. - It may be up to a month before you get paid.

Day: 9:00am to 3:30pm. Two, 15 minute, breaks (morning and afternoon). One hour for lunch. Mandatory supervision duties. Supply teachers almost always have supervision duties. ‘Dinner Ladies’ cover lunch time supervision. Many schools offer hot lunches, but students do have

the option of bringing a pack lunch also.
