WHAT IS BIG DATA?
Honestly, it’s a Buzzword.Formally related to apply
statistical techniques to a massive amount of Data. Albeit, there’s not consensus
about a proper name.
WHAT IS BIG DATA? According to the Master’s outline,
it’s not about Big Data but rather what’s useful for today’s businesses. It’s about learn statistic techniques
that will help understand and discover patters, differences, correlations and validate if it is possible to do something with them or not.
According to the figure, the main difference between Big Data and Data Mining is about the size of the Data Bases. That will depend on the Business nature and Data Collection.

The % believing that Business Analytics creates a competitive advantage for their organization is declining. There’s still plenty optimism,
but there have been unrealistic expectations and technical challenges for businesses.

CHALLENGES IN COLOMBIA Specifically in Colombia,
there’s a lack of talent able to fulfil most basic positions related with Big Data in Business.
And honestly, we haven’t truly started to implement real Data Science, precisely because of this knowledge gap.
LONG HARD ROAD OUT OF HELL…Big Data is not
easy, and even though most people know about the “Beer and Diaper” story, most can’t find useful insights for their own Business.

MAKE IT ACCESIBLE!!
Big Data is not easy and there’s a big technical gap to fulfil roles that can complete tasks related with this topic.
But there’s still a big problem: you can’t make everyone an expert; you need to make it useful for the Business, in its own terms.
MY ROLE: Help business cross the bridge. Closing the gap between technical knowledge and business usefulness.
