Some Famous Mathematician of Modern Time.

Page 3: Mathematics in our daily life

Leonhard Euler

• He was a Swiss mathematician.• Works with almost all area of

mathematics.• Concept of function as we use

today was introduced by him.• He was the first mathematician

to write f(x) to denote function.

Page 4: Mathematics in our daily life

Sir Isaac Newton

• We would live in a very difficult world, if sir Isaac Newton was not born.

• There are not many subjects that Newton didn’t have a huge impact in.

• He was the only inventor of Calculus .

Page 5: Mathematics in our daily life

Carl Gauss

• Isaac Newton is a hard act to follow, but if anyone can pull it off, it's Carl Gauss.

• Gauss was the greatest mathematician ever, better than of Newton.

• He published "Arithmetical Investigations," a foundational textbook that laid out the tenets of number theory (the study of whole numbers).

Page 6: Mathematics in our daily life

John von Neumann

• Right now, whatever device or computer that you are reading this on, be it phone or computer, is cycling through a series of basic steps billions of times over each second; steps that allow it to do things like render Internet articles and play videos and music, steps that were first thought up by John von Neumann.

Page 7: Mathematics in our daily life

Benoit Mandelbrot

• Benoit Mandelbrot landed on this list thanks to his discovery of fractal geometry.

• Without fractals, it's safe to say that we would be decades behind where we are now in the field of computer-generated images, cell phone industry and computer making firms.

Page 8: Mathematics in our daily life

The great misconception about mathematics

• Mostly people thought that mathematics is about formulas and cranking out computations. It is the unconsciously held delusion that mathematics is a set of rules and formulas that have been worked out by God knows who for God knows why, and the student's duty is to memorize all this stuff.

• Such students seem to feel that sometime in the future their boss will walk into the office and demand "Quick, what's the quadratic formula?" Or, "Hurry, I need to know the derivative of 3x^2 - 6x + 7." There are no such employers.

Page 9: Mathematics in our daily life

WHAT IS MATHEMATICS REALLY LIKE?

• It's a big enough thing that you can describe it in a lot of different ways, depending on your perspective.

• Maths is the study of how to create, manipulate, and understand abstract structures. Abstract structures are the heart of it.

• Math can work with numbers: the various different sets of numbers are examples of one of the kinds of abstract structures that we can work with.

• But math is so much more than just numbers. It's numbers, and sets, and categories, and topologies, and graphs, and much, much more.

Some practical examples of mathematics in our daily life.

Page 12: Mathematics in our daily life

Mathematics in Cars:

• The wheels and lights are circles, the doors are rectangular prisms, the main area for a person to drive and sit in it a half a sphere with the sides chopped off which makes it ¼ of a sphere.

• If a person would look very closely he would see a lot more shapes in the car.

Page 13: Mathematics in our daily life

Mathematics in Forensic

Mathematics is applied to clarity the blurred image to clear image.

This is done by using differential and integral calculus.

Page 14: Mathematics in our daily life

CALCULUS

• It is the study of change.• It includes limits, derivatives, integrals and

infinite series.• It helps us to find the area of figures, to know

the acceleration of a car moving in a highway with a uniform speed. Also the movement of an artificial satellite, ship etc.

Page 15: Mathematics in our daily life

Maths in Engineering

• Mathematics is involved in everything an engineer does, whether it is working out how much concrete is needed to build a bridge, or determining the amount of solar energy to power a car.

Banking

• Banking : A system of trading in money which involved safeguarding deposits and making funds available for borrowers.

What is the use of mathematics in Banking ?

• Bank is full of transactions. In turn the transaction is nothing but mathematics.

• Banks are also involved in stocks and bonds. Bond calculations are mathematical. Stock options are also quite mathematical.

Page 35: Mathematics in our daily life

Foreign Exchange Market

• The foreign exchange (currency) market refers to the market for currencies. Transactions in this market typically involve one party purchasing a quantity of one currency in exchange for paying a quantity of another.

Page 36: Mathematics in our daily life

Arithmetic• Arithmetic ( Profit & Loss, Percentage, Ratio and

Proposition , Time related problems): The word refers to a branch of mathematics which records elementary properties of certain operations on numbers.

• Arithmetic operations:– The traditional arithmetic operations are addition,

subtraction, multiplication and division, although more advanced operations (such as manipulations of percentages, square root, exponentiation, and logarithmic functions).

Page 37: Mathematics in our daily life

Algebra

It is a branch of mathematics concerning the study of structure, relation, and quantity.Classification

Page 38: Mathematics in our daily life

How Algebra is useful in daily life ?

• Suppose , we are to appoint a person for some domestic purpose .We give him two option for salary per month as :– (1)Rs. 25 daily.– (2)Rs.5 for the first day and keep on increasing Rs. 2 to the

pervious days for the next day

• Which option will be better for him ?– (2) option is better:– As in the (1) option he will get only25× 30 = Rs. 750– And in the (2) option he will get = 5 +7+9 +...+ upto 30 terms=

Rs. 1020. ( sum of 30 terms of A.P.)

Page 39: Mathematics in our daily life

Mathematics is unavoidable. It's a deeply fundamental thing. Without math, there would be no science, no

music, no art. Mathematics is part of all of those things. If it's got

structure, then there's an aspect of it that's mathematical.
