For some people, interior design is something that comes quite naturally. For others, it is something that

they think is better left for those who are naturals at it. The following guide will assist those who have

difficulties and give inspiration to those with natural skills in this area.

Set the Mood. Figure out what mood you're trying to set and use that as the basis for your color choices.

If you want it to be relaxing or calming, consider using light and cool colors like blues and greens. Your

color choices and your choice of furniture should all be based on what you're trying to accomplish with

the look and feel of the room.

Add some Artwork. A nice piece of art can

really make a room look "finished." Make sure

you choose a piece of art work that goes with

the colors and feel of the room. You don't want

it to compete with other things in the room for

attention.

Be aware of space. If you go crazy with a room

it might end up getting cluttered. No matter

how nice looking and well decorated a room is,

if there isn't enough space to move around no

one will even bother to go in it.

Draperies. If you have small windows and

would like to make them look bigger, hang

drapery near the top of the ceiling to elongate

your windows. By hanging the rods near the

ceiling and having the drapes hang to the floor;

it gives the window the effect that it is actually

bigger than what it is.

Take your sofa cushion shopping with you. It might feel silly, but taking along part of your sofa can save

you a lot of time any money. Bring it with you when shopping for curtains or other decorating materials.

This way, you will be able to ensure that everything matches.

Avoid using any design trends that are currently popular. These trends are often expensive, and they'll be

out of style fairly quickly. Go with something timeless that you think looks good. Don't let what current

trends say are good influence how you want your place to look. Follow your heart, not a trendy magazine.

Clean up. Before starting any interior design, it is a good idea to make sure everything is very clean. Your

carpet may look terrible, but it may not need to be replaced. It is possible that it just needs a good

cleaning! Get everything cleaned up before deciding on what to do next, and you may save yourself

money and time.

No matter your skill level when it comes to interior design, you should now have some great ideas that

you can use in your vacation homes. Get started today making a dreary house into a home that you feel

comfortable in and proud of. You will be pleased that you took the time to read the guide and then put it

to use!
