Assignment #5:Prototype and test
Prototype and testCourse: Design Thinking Action Lab Stanford University | august 2013
By Núria Rovira | @nurovira75
0. OriginWhere does it come from?
Our challenge is to redesign the school-to-work transition
1. The interview
2. Empathy map
3. Problem statement
She’s a learner. She’s an open, creative, co-llaborative and reliable environmental technician, who is convinced about:
1) thinking globally and acting locally; 2) the power of innovation applied to improving our Environment;
3) believing in what you do.
Laia Zeland thinks different...
needs to find a collaborative and demonstrative job related to environmental fields because she needs to contribute to solve environmental challenges while sharing knowledge and developing her own concerns.
needs to have a way to create opinion in environmental subjects because she wants people to realise about their importance.
needs to take green feeding because she wants to live in accord with her beliefs.
needs to feel her partner and family support because it is important to make her feel secure.
needs to feel complete, fulfilled because it lets her feel peaceful, giving sense to her life, thinking she’s not wasting her time.
feeding
Laia Zeland needs different things...
jobsource
love
Self-realization
green and flexiblea way to comunicate
green
Partner and familiy closeness
4. Ideate solutions

Self-realization
5. Prototype & test a solutionfor selected idea
This week assignment (19/08/2013)
Our challenge is to redesign the school-to-work transition
Selected idea: craft a videocurriculum to apply to organisations which can offer this kind of jobs
Review problem statement: just one (job) because it was too broad + a bit different: “Laia needs
to find a flexible, collaborative and demonstrative job
related to environmental fields, specially Water items, because she needs to contribute to solve environmental challenges while sharing knowledge and developing her own concerns”.
First notes...
5-1. Prototyping
Laia Zelands videocurriculum
Let’s see the prototype!Let’s do it!
my Moëbius band...
- seems infinite / it’s finite
- just 1 side: knowledge + values
- cycle / recycle- liquid / flows
(water expert + being water)
The complete “travelling”...
5-2. Testing Laia Zelands videocurriculum
Let’s test it together!Let’s have fun!
It’s been tested by: Rafa, Ana, Anna, Mònica and Anna. Thank you!
What worked What could be improved
Questions Ideas
- it looks original, different. Good idea! - More images, less text (more visual)
- Branding references (Be water, my friend)
- Beatles song
- Moëbius band: good idea. 1 side!
- Synthesis in writing and explaining concepts
- video should close with positive words (word “failure” in the middle)
- synthesis: concepts
- “contact me” (no “please”)
- just “unsustainability” vs “sustainability”
- It catches attention (to go in, to continue)
- studies done by L. Zeland written somewhere
- Laia Zeland photo somewhere
- if it’s possible, substitute photo by Laia Zeland video, explaining concepts directly (she could sell herself directly)- tools for doing video: Prezi, Power-point, digital camera...
- advertising language (publicity)
5-3. Reflection about Laia Zelands videocurriculum
What I learnt by testing the prototype:I just did one prototype (didn’t have more time) and should have tried to do another one.I realised it’s a good beginning. It works! People like it!!I realised it was too complex or difficult, too many concepts I wanted to explain;I detected missing items (images!!)And we had a lot of fun sharing the prototype and trying to improve it all together.
What I would like to do next:Doing it, doing the videocurriculum (first draft) including new ideas and improvements.Share first draft with Laia Zeland and know her opinion.
