Character ImageWe have developed the foreground image of the two main characters from our film by cutting out the image again, however this time a lot neater. This is because we want it to look perfect on our magazine cover with no mistakes. We have also smoothed the edges as well as added a drop shadow effect. This is similar to our poster design as we want there to be a strong shadow from the characters to emphasize the mystery within the narrative. Whilst perfecting the image we used the dodge and burn tool on places under facial features because this makes the slightly shadowed areas stand out more, as well as making it appear more 3D. Finally, the gun was sharpened and this is because we wanted it to stand out more as it is positioned over a black coat and we want it to be visible for viewers.

Background ImageAfter we decided that we wanted an evening/ night time effect for our image of New York we played around with different tools on Photoshop and changed the brightness and contrast to make the image darker and for the buildings to stand out more. We then used the hue and saturation tool to give a slightly dark blue undertone as well as a slight orange tint to make it appear like a sunset in the evening. As we were using these tools we looked at images of New York in the evening and at night time to give us ideas of what colours to use within our own image. This final image is a lot more effective than our original one because the darker colours link to our branding identity and it still portrays the location to the audience.

Titles After we had got our background image to the colours we wanted, we started to play around with our main titles and we kept the ‘Empire’ logo the original bright red as this is common within their own brand. However, we made our film title ‘Dedecus’ a darker shade of red and this is because we felt it matched our branding identity better than the brighter colour. As our darker background still has white undertones, we decided to make the website address, price, release date, and ‘Nobody does it better’ text black and this made them stand out more and they are now more visible to the audience.

Conclusion This is our updated magazine cover and it is almost complete, however one thing i would like to change is to move the character image slightly to the right. This is because i want the empire state building to be more visible in the centre like our rough cut magazine cover.
