history
Hip hop is a subcultural movement that was formed during the early 1970s by African-American and Puerto Rican youths residing in the South Bronx in New York City. It became popular outside of the African-American community in the late 1980s and by the 2000s became the genre most frequently on a Spotify playlist. It is characterized by four distinct elements, all of which represent the different parts of the culture: Mcing, Djing, b-boying, and graffiti art. Even while it continues to develop globally in different styles, these four foundational elements provide coherence to hip hop culture.

Controversy
Their have been lots of controversial songs in the hip hop history with the lyrics in some songs coming across as offensive or a indirect insult to another person an example of this is Eminem's song love the way you lie where its said “Just gonna stand there and watch me burn / Well, that’s alright because I like the way it hurts” Some critics believed the song was imitating the real lives of Eminem and Rihanna. Em had been involved in a difficult relationship with his ex-wife Kim, who he divorced in 2001, and again in 2006. Chris Brown assaulted Rihanna in 2009. However, some felt if the lyrics could influence the idea of blaming the victim in an abusive relationship and encouraging that behavior.
