Formula 1 racing requires IT solutions that can deliver optimal performance while withstanding extreme environments. Data is collected from cars traveling in excess of 200 miles per hour, and it must be processed as quickly as possible so the pit crew can make adjustments during the race.

Dell worked with the BMW Sauber F1 team to deploy new pit and production systems that ran wherever they competed, anywhere in the world. PowerEdge servers provided the business-critical speed, and high-resolution Latitude™

notebooks let the crew quickly pick up details in the transmitted data.

• New, robust technology worked well in any environment.

• Dell customized its Platinum enterprise support to meet the team’s specific needs.

• Faster evaluation of race-critical data helped the BMW Sauber F1 team achieve their best on the track.

The Mazda IT group wanted to reduce data center complexity and simplify operations, while providing more services to the business without adding IT staff.

Dell provided guidance and best practices to consolidate Mazda’s fast-growing IT infrastructure. PowerEdge servers and systems management software simplified their data center and helped streamline operations.

• Consolidation from 80 servers down to five, a 33% infrastructure reduction.

• Simplified server environment reduced server administration time by 38%, giving IT staff more time to further business objectives.

• Planned use of virtualization tools within the business continuity strategy will reduce disaster recovery time from days to hours.

Deelgemeente IJsselmonde added a new server to run each new application, which led to server sprawl. They needed to consolidate their server environment and find a trusted supplier to provide optimum services.

Acting as a single point of contact, Dell implemented a virtual server environment on PowerEdge 2950 servers. A storage solution also provided a backup system, enabling faster recovery during the day.

• IT employees saved 25% of their time managing equipment.

• Virtualization reduced the number of physical servers required by 50%.

• The pay-as-you-grow scalable enterprise model helped the IT department control its computing costs.

Piedmont faced the double dilemma of explosive growth and limited data center space, and needed a compact infrastructure capable of scaling without excessive costs.

Dell created a practical blueprint for a power-efficient, highly scalable IT environment. It made use of PowerEdge dual-core servers, VMware® virtualization software, and a Dell/EMC CX300 SAN.

• Virtualization helped maximize server utilization; consolidation conserved costs and benefited customer-facing applications.

• By running eight virtual machines on each PowerEdge server, Piedmont was able to do more with less—less physical space, less energy consumption, and less complication when it comes time to expand.

As a fast-growing company, Tellabs faced server sprawl. This issue created management challenges and TCO concerns. Adding physical servers took weeks, hampering Tellabs’ ability to quickly launch new applications.

Dell assessed Tellabs’ current infrastructure and recommended virtualizing onto PowerEdge server farms. This solution enabled Tellabs to drastically reduce the number of servers in the production environment.

• By creating 40 virtual machines per physical server, Tellabs consolidated more than 100 physical servers.

• Tellabs slashed $150,000 a year in power and cooling costs along with $250,000 in hardware maintenance.

• The virtualized server farms eliminated the need to purchase 250 additional servers at a cost of $2 million.

• New applications can now be launched in hours instead of weeks.
