NQT – the induction year begins when you have gained QTS.

Induction year – develops your “tool-kit” through personalised CPD and support and provides further evidence of your ability to meet the standards.

Secondary: After successful completion of the induction “year” (3 full school terms) QTS is confirmed. Qualified to teach 11-18.

FE/Post compulsory: Qualified to teach in post-compulsory education. Will achieve QTLS

QTS is awarded by the Teaching Agency. No need to register.

During the year, all NQTs should receive structured support from induction tutors. This will include:

Being registered with HCC (Secondary NQTs)

Regular meetings to monitor progress(written half termly reviews which are submitted to the LA are essential for secondary trained NQTs)

Lesson observations Training For secondary trained NQTs, a

school-based teaching period is required (10 days)

As NQTs you should:

Receive a 10 per cent reduction in your teaching timetable to give you time to develop your teaching skills away from the classroom

Reflect on and record evidence of your progress (A report on progress against the Induction standards is completed and sent to HCC at the end of each term)

Take responsibility for your own professional development, but ensure you ask for help.

Making the most of it…. Support each other (within your college

and the network) Link up with ex-NQTs Use the training opportunities provided

e.g. SLCs, Curriculum Support Groups, exam boards, peer observation

Beware the support that makes you feel even more exhausted!

Prioritise – you will not achieve everything Try not to be over-critical! Focus on moving forward
