Such an active role includes being attentive during instruction, fully participating during learning activities, and taking responsibilities for your own learning, you should not disrupt class or hinder the learning of other. Course Goals and Content:The Content of this course is consistent with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Biology. Upon Completion of this Course, students should have a basic understanding of the following topics: Cells, organic molecules, biological evolution, ecology, classification, protein synthesis, and animal behavior.

Class Norms.

The Following Rules are necessary in order for each class meeting to run smoothly and to ensure an optimal learning environment.

1. Be Respectful . Students are expected to be respectful of everyone in class. Students should listen when the teacher is talking and should not carry on conversations with classmates. This same respect should be afforded to classmates who are speaking and to any guest in our classroom.

2. No Cell Phones should be out during class. Cell phones will be taken and given back at the end of class if I see them in class. Computers should also be put up unless we are working on them. If you are playing games or violating the AUP, Computers will be taken up if you are in violation of the AUP. I have copies of the AUP.

3. Be Prompt. Tardiness is unacceptable, and you will be sent to get a tardy slip. 3 tardies equal an absent which will have to be made up.

4. Be Prepared. Students should be prepared for class by bringing their notebooks, textbooks, homework, and writing tools with them to class everyday. Students should have these materials ready to begin class before the tardy bell.

5. NO LATE WORK !6. Obscene Language will not be tolerated, even in a joking manner. 7. Do not mock, joke on, or disrespect any students at any time during class.8. Be Attentive. Students are expected to pay attention during lecture and other

instructional activities. No Sleeping – Heads up. 9. Do not stand up, gather materials, or prepare to leave until bell rings. The

TEACHER DISMISSES Class.10. Biology is a required class for graduation.11. Students wandering during class, standing up, or disrupting class will be

bounced/coach notified if playing sport, 2nd offense call to parent contact/coach notified, 3rd offense written up.

12. A grade of “0” will be given to students caught cheating. This includes copying other students work, googling answer keys, working together on individual assignments, using social media during assignments, and wandering the class during tests.

13. Students should be respectful of guests in our class and remain quiet.14. The Lab stations/sinks are not trashcans.15. Sit in Assigned seating.16. Kahoot Quizzes must have your Government Name or you will be booted

from the quiz and receive a 0.17. Aggressive behavior, talking back to the teacher, being disrespectful, or any

behavior considered hostile will result in being automatically written up.

We will be communicating through Google docs, emails, and will use different applications of your MacBook’s. Mac Books are NOT to be used to play games or social media and will be taken if students are seen violating the AUP.

Lab Guidelines:1. Students should be in the lab area and/or around the lab equipment only

when instructed by the teacher, and only if supervised.2. No food or drink in the lab area or around lab equipment3. Always wear proper lab safety equipment4. Follow all lab instructions5. Be careful with lab equipment6. Clean lab area when finished. If lab area is not cleaned, points will be

deducted from that person or group who was at that area.7. REPORT ALL ACCIDENTS

Daily Procedures

1. Have your materials ready before class begins. Make sure your pencil is sharpened before class.

2. Food and Drink are not permitted in Class3. Foul Language will not be tolerated, ever.4. You are expected to pay attention during teacher instruction and

participate in class discussion. If you have a question or comment, raise your hand and wait to be called on. Also, be respectful of others when they are talking, points will be deducted from your grade for being disrespectful to other students while they are speaking.

5. All Classwork and Homework is expected to be turned in on the assigned due date. There is NO LATE WORK. Excused Absences have 5 days to turn in completed work, which is the only exception.

6. Students must sign out, write down time, and sign in and write down time in when leaving the classroom. Failure to do so is considered leaving the class without permission. Students must ask to use the restroom, water etc., sign out and in, and ask teacher’s permission.

Biology has an EOC that is worth 20% of the student’s grade. 40% for each 9-week section, which totals 100%

Extra Credit is given at the teacher’s discretion.

We will be using Google Docs This year, schoolnet, so keep your Mac Books charged and bring them to class everyday. However, they should not be out unless directed by the teacher.
