assist teachers in the whole planning cycle and the

management/preparation of resources. Also to

supervise whole classes occasionally during the

short-term absence of teachers.

To deliver bespoke interventions in line with EHCP

outcomes.

To provide support for students, the teachers and

the wider academy in order to raise standards of

achievement for all students (e.g. SEN, EAL, AT, all

underachieving groups), by utilising advanced levels

of knowledge and skills when assisting with

planning, monitoring, assessing and managing

classes, and to encourage students to become

independent learners, to provide support for their

welfare, and to support the inclusion of pupils in all

aspects of academy life.

To contribute to the induction programme for

newly-appointed LSP’s and provide mentoring

support to trainees on work placements.

To develop connections with colleges and work

placements for those students in Key Stage 4.

Reporting to: Learning Leader Additional Needs/SENCo

Responsible for: NoneWorking Time: 37 hours per week term time + 1 weekSalary/Grade 37 hours per week - 1 Year (Conditional to students with

EHCP staying at The Oldham Academy North\or the EHCP continuing. Should either of these conditions change then the post could cease).

Responsibilities of the post:The Senior Learning Support Practitioner’s (Senior LSP) main role is to provide support for the student with a statement of special educational needs. The Senior LSP will ensure that the students with SEN can integrate as fully as possible into the mainstream curriculum generally undertaken by the other children in the class and make progress.

Duties will include running specific programmes and activities to assist the student’s individual learning and social needs. The Senior LSP will be responsible for implementing the targets on student’s one page profile in liaison with class teachers and the SENCO.

Supporting our students:- To provide learning support for the students in class

or in withdrawal situations, either 1:1 or small groups.

To develop knowledge of the particular needs of the child and seek advice from SENCO, class teacher and outside agencies as required.

To aid access to the full range of learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom and provide modified materials as required e.g. worksheets, games, visual prompt cards etc.

To make or modify resources as suggested and advised by the SENCO, Educational Psychologist or other outside agencies.

To be involved in the planning and preparation of the day to day class activities.

To organise and maintain an inclusive learning environment both in the classroom and outside.

To support students during social times (where appropriate), being mindful of his health and safety in relation to specific learning difficulties or health conditions, and encouraging safe interactive play.

Motivate and encourage the students to have a go at activities they may be unsure of.

Provide positive reinforcements, praise and rewards.

Facilitate inclusion in small group activities with peers and support interaction between them.

To attend in service training and relevant meetings relevant to the post in order to keep up to date with developments in working with children with special educational needs.

Provide support and facilitate interaction with peers in the classroom and around school.

To regularly liaise with parents/carers.

Supporting our Academy Teaching staff:-

To work as part of the team to ensure that the well being and personal development of students enhances their learning opportunities and life skills.

To attend planning meetings with the SENCO and class teachers to develop learning programmes and to assist in the delivery of the individual learning programmes on a daily basis to promote learning, behaviour and communication skills.

To provide regular feedback to the class teacher, SENCO, parents/carers and relevant outside agencies about the student’s difficulties and progress.

To contribute to student’s annual review by writing a report and attending the meeting.

Supporting the wider Additional Needs Team Assist with the line management and development

of other LSP’s within the team e.g. CPD, Coaching, EHCP Forum

Offer mentoring, support and guidance for Key Stage 4 students as they plan for transition to KS5 and further education

Contribute to TOAN values (Trust, Endurance, Autonomy and Mastery), by attending relevant meetings and contributing to the development of policies and procedures within the school. Also, participate in staff meetings and training days/events as requested.

Supporting TEAMTOAN:-

To facilitate social time provision for students with Additional Needs – break time, lunch time and before/after the academy day

To work with parents and carers in line with the E-ACT Code of Conduct.

To participate in relevant professional development under the direction of the Learning Leader for Additional Needs

To understand and apply the academy policies on learning and behaviour, and the statutory guidelines relating to disability discrimination and special educational needs.

To maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the student’s needs but have regard to the safeguarding procedures of The Oldham Academy North.

To carry out duties as directed by the Director of Additional Needs/ Learning Leader/SENCO.

The AAG and Head Teacher are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and ensuring that safer recruitment procedures are effectively in place.

Qualifications and Experience.

Minimum GCSE English and Maths A* - C or equivalent.

An ability to use information technology beyond simple word processing.

Experience of working with students with significant special educational needs,

Evidence for having been responsible for successful Additional Needs support in a primary/secondary school.

A/I Proven teaching experience of working in a school with an ethnic minority population.

A recent and relevant INSET profile.

Experience in effectively working with external agencies in order to improve provision and support for students with Additional Needs.

Experience of working with students with ASD.
