ZTE UMTS Worldwide ApplicationsWith the coming of the 3G age, 3G applications are quietly spreading throughout the world. Of the
world’s 3G standards, UMTS is showing the strongest development momentum! Listed in both Hong
Kong and the Chinese domestic stock exchanges, communications equipment manufacturer ZTE
not only has the ability to provide complete UMTS solutions, but also has begun deployed the com-
mercial 3G networks on a global scale. The performance of these networks proves that ZTE is fully

UMTS INTERNATIONAL APPLICATIONS
The Breakthrough of ZTE UMTS in Tunisia
Providing end-to-end solutions
ZTE provides a complete set of end-to-end UMTS solutions; from UMTS wireless access network subsystems
and core network infrastructure through to 3G mobile service platforms and 3G mobile terminal devices. These
complete UMTS networks are based on the current 3GPP R4 protocol structure with core networks based on a
softswitch framework. ZTE intends to provide a wide range of UMTS services including MMS, VOD, VP, VC and
TV on mobile phones. Users worldwide will experience the magic of 3G through ZTE’s networks.
Rapid network construction to connect Africa’s first 3G telephone call
ZTE undertook construction of a UMTS to serve the communication needs of the 2005 ITU conference, mainly
covering Tunisia’s two major cities of Sousse and Tunis. Here ZTE fully demonstrated its ability to construct
networks rapidly and the maturity and commercial viability of its UMTS equipment. In just 3 months, much faster
than normally possible, ZTE completed the vast majority of construction, installation and commissioning work
according to the requirements of the testing authorities. On September 16, 2004, ZTE beat all competitors to put
through Africa’s first 3G voice call in the tourist centre of Tunisia.

The Tunisian Ministry of Transportation and Communications has expressed its high level of satisfaction with the
outstanding performance of ZTE’s UMTS network service and the stability and reliability of its equipment:

In the third quarter of 2004, ZTE’s UMTS UTRAN products quickly passed UTRAN testing by Spain’s Telefonica.
Comprehensive testing of ZTE’s UTRAN products was carried out, covering areas such as functions through perfor-
mance to compatibility. In the area of compatibility, ZTE UTRAN successfully connected to Ericsson and Nokia’s
core networks, allowing a smooth crossover of 2G/3G data and voice, and a range of different service functions.
During the testing, ZTE passed all 85 test items at the first attempt, fully reflecting the stability and compatibility
levels of ZTE’s UTRAN products.

ZTE UMTS V3 family ProductsGiant strides are being made in the development of ZTE UMTS products and more than 2,600
specialists from China and worldwide are simultaneously involved in system research and devel-
opment in R&D centres around the globe. In October 2004, ZTE released its V3 commercial
products family, developed from the high-performance V2 family, including all network compo-
nents and covering every level of UMTS networks such as core network subsystems, wireless
network subsystems, 3G unified service platforms, network management subsystems and mo-
bile terminals. V3 family products use a full IP hardware platform that allows the smooth evolution
to R5 and R6 and offers further advances in terms of high capacity, high integration and stability.
Tailor-made, Node B family products satisfy the construction demands for different regions, stages,
capacity, coverage and a variety of different services. ZTE also boasts a specialised network
planning and optimisation team to provide customers with customised, meticulous planning to

core network solution and real full IP unified hardware platform that facilitates smooth evolution and upgrading to R5/

ZTE’s customised service solution includes a comprehensive service system comprising service
engines, service platforms (multi-service management platforms and open service environment),
making it easy for operators to integrate all kinds of content and create an exciting array of value-
added services.
ZTE’s UMTS unified service platforms bring together service execution platforms, service man-
agement platforms and intelligent network platforms. Via the service execution platform, opera-
tors can work together with AP/SP/CP to develop a rich array of mobile services such as mobile
phone TV, videophone, on-site monitoring, online games, multimedia short messaging, mobile
payments and information services.
Through the service management platform and intelligent network platform, operators can effi-
ciently manage the value chain of value-added service applications and ensure complete and
unified management over SP, CP and users as well as effective control of charge rates and
calculation of charges.

An open unified service platformZTE’s multiservice management platform is the core management platform for mobile data ser-
vices and provides the service management and control functions for data services. This con-
forms to OSA/OMA architecture, unrelated to networks, with excellent openness. The system
has a modular structure, making it easily expandable, and can be used together with service
engines to serve as a single service platform. This can also bring in a variety of different functions
and be used as a unified service platform.

An open service laboratory ZTE has established an UMTS multiservice development platform at its R&D centre in Nanjing to provide compre-
hensive service support for all ZTE’s MTNET field testing, other participating manufacturers and other ZTE UMTS
test networks. ZTE offers an extensive range of services and mature applications including SMS/MMS/LCS/WAP
/JAVA downloads/streaming media/intelligent networks/3G video information/PoC/IMPS and other service en-

Video PhoneService in Circuit Switch domain (CS)

ZTE’s UMTS system utilizes the specific technology of Power Control with excellent quality in
Video and Audio, and thus obtains the recognition of customers all over the world.
Java DownloadJava wireless service is a brand new value-added mobile data service, creates the new appli-
cation environment of mobile Internet, and thus provides graphic dynamic mobile value-added
services. Content downloading platform of ZTE ZXMC-CDS can offer offline and online
applications. Using mobile handset with J2ME function, subscribers are able to easily enjoy
the various kinds of services provided by mobile operators like Internet surfing.
Video On DemandVideo On Demand is a streaming media service. As a new way of media transmission, it is
widely used in information service domain, such as live broadcast, order programming,
advertisement, and remote real-time video conference, and brings the revolutionary changes
of network information communication. ZTE’s UMTS system can provide the streaming media
service with the traffic data rate up to 384kbps.
Handset Monitoring& Handset TVBased on live broadcast services implemented by ZTE ZXV10 Streaming media system, data
rate of streaming media services from 30Kbps to 384Kbps can be achieved, to satisfy the
needs of different subscribers. Handset Monitoring is widely used in domains such as equip-
ment room monitoring, family monitoring and traffic navigation. Handset TV has the great
prospect in domains such as sports news, big sports event, finance and information.

Mobile Video ConferenceThrough the protocol conversion provided by ZTE’s 3G video gateway of ZX V10 G100 and the management and
control of ZXMVC8900’s multi-point control unit (MCU) and the meeting management system, the users can join
the Video Conference with handset wherever and whenever.
Inter-communication of video terminals indifferent networks
Through the protocol conversion provided by ZTE’s 3G video gateway of ZXV10 G100, the video terminals of ZTE
UMTS system can implement the inter-communication of video terminals with systems such as SIP, H.323/H.320
and cdma2000, and thus expand the application scopes of services and create an opening operating environment.
MMSZTE’s ZXME multimedia message center has the advanced technologes of large-capacity and mature and stable
modules.
With embedded PPG function, PUSH message can be sent directly;
