Our storyAt the forefront of early literacy
Hello, we are the Granthamsisters and we are the proudowners of the Reading GymClinics and the Reading GymAlphabet Phonics Program.
We started out small about 15 years ago, working with 3 kids per week out of ourhome office. Our staff consisted of MaryJane,Marsha and Sasha (our Yorkshire Terrier).
2 • Our story
Marsha Grantham, SLP Sasha, Mascot MaryJane Grantham, Coach
As more and more kids came to us,we realized that they couldn't read becausethey didn't know their letter sounds andtherefore could not "sound out" words phonetically.
Alternatively, many times when kids wereable to "sound out" a word correctly, theywere unable to write the word becausethey didn't know how to print the lettersfrom memory.
Parents often said to us that their kids had had their vision tested, their hearing tested, and had extra support at home/school, but still didn't knowtheir letters. We needed to figure out a way to teach the letter sounds by attaching meaning to the learning. Although we aren'tartists, we started to draw the picturesin the shape of letters and it worked!
Kids were really starting to grasp it!
4 • Our story
With this in mind, we developeda sound/symbol correspondenceand printing program that hasworked wonders in our clinic!!!
“Students who have struggled with trying to remember their letter sounds have excelled with our program.”
6 • Our story
We created a variety of 5-10 minute activities targeting sound/symbolcorrespondence in a circuit trainingformat, keeping kids busy, happy, andengaged for the duration of every visit.
Today, Reading Gym is gettingbigger than our clinics can handle.
More than 6,000 childrenhave benefited from the programwith success! Our clinical experiencehas shown that our programsaccelerate letter learning.

10 • Our story
As former gymnastics coaches,we see great value in the combination of hard workand productive play.
Our program embodies these values.
“When learning the alphabet, using a multisensory approach strengthens neurological pathways to support memory function. The phonological and orthographic systems interact together and complement each other during multisensory activities.”
Reading Gym Productsand Programs make kid's literacy fun, engaging, and most of all accessible.
