We already reported on ARION a yearago; they are a high-quality manufac-turer based in South Korea that hasin the meantime adopted the sloganabove in their marketing campaign. We wanted to know what ARION hasbeen up to in the past year. Back thenthe rst HD receiver appeared on themarket. Today, ARION has a new HDbox that we are introducing in thisissue of TELE-satellite.

Thomas Roh, Director of Sales and Mar-keting, explained to us, Here in Seoul wehave 20% more employees than we did ayear ago. ARION is a brain company, thatis, more than half of their employees cur-rently 70 work in Research and Develop-ment.

Satellite receiver production takes placenow mainly in DongGuan, China wherethere are 200 employees. Thomas is quiteoptimistic about the future: For 2007 weexpect sales of US$ 80 million and for 2008we are condent that we will break the US$

    100 million barrier.

According to Thomas Roh, 50% of ourincome come from Europe, 20% from India,20% from the Middle East and North Africaand 10% from South America and Aus-tralia. Thomas explained these numbers:

We are involved not only with the high-end business, but also actively engaged inconquering the Emerging Markets eld aswell.

He managed to surprise us with this littletidbit: We recently opened a sales ofcein Buenos Aires, Argentina. And thatsnot all: We are planning to open ofces inSouth Afric a and India. ARION also consid-ers the CIS countries to be an interestingmarket.

We asked Casey Joo, the Managing Direc-tor AV R&D Laboratory, what boxes areproviding ARION with this success: 50%of the satellite receivers are CAS embed-ded while 30% are FTA units.

Thomas Roh told us more, Even though

PVR boxes only make up 20%, they accountfor 40% of our income. PVRs are becom-ing more and more important especiallythose models with external hard drives anda SATA link to the receiver. The data trans-fer rate to the hard drive needs to be fastin particular when dealing with HD signals. The SATA interface is best suited for this.

ARION is also busy developing newproducts. Included would be an ENTAVIOreceiver for the German market and anIrdeto embedded Combo for Australianmarket. Many large cable and satellite TV

operators are also customers of ARION, inIreland, Slovakia, Argentina and India. Weare also working on a HD PVR, explainedCasey Joo.

ARION is also working on IPTV. Caseybelieves the primary market to be internalcable networks. He lists what this wouldinclude: Hotels, hospitals, schools anduniversities. Another important target iscable TV operators who want triple playservice or TPS (CATV, Internet, VoIP) andARION is responding to the demand with ahybrid IPTV which is scheduled to be on themarket in 3rd quarter 2008.

When will the big HD boom nally arrive? We asked Thomas Roh this question andhe had a quick answer: That will be inthe 4th Quarter of 2008, just in time forthe Christmas season. ARION should know they produce HD receivers.

A good choice for a better life!

The two lower oors of the ARION building are rentedout;this would be space for future expansion. All the remain-ing oors are fully occupied by ARION. Management is onthe third oor while the engineers and programmers withall their PCs and analyzers take up the fourth, fth andsixth oors.
