1. Photosynthesis in plants occurs in chloroplasts

1. Takes place in two parts: stroma and thylokoid

2. Most chloroplasts are in leaf cellschloroplast

1. Plant produce food for themselves and other organisms.

Where does ALL the energy originate from?

Page 6: 1. Plants use photosynthesis to make sugars 2. Photosynthesis is a process that captures energy from sunlight to make sugars that store chemical energy

All energy comes from the SUN!

2. Regulates Earth’s environment (removes carbon dioxide from Earth’s atmosphere)

Temperature• As temperature increases, the rate of

photosynthesis increases to a maximum and then decreases when temps get too hot.

– The rate peaks at a certain temperature, at which many of the enzymes that catalyze the reactions become ineffective. Also, the stomata begin to close, limiting water loss and entry of carbon dioxide.

Which graph represents the affect of temperature on the rate of photosynthesis?

Light Intensity

•Rate of photosynthesis increases as light intensity increases

•However, at some point all available e- are excited, and the maximum rate of photosynthesis is reached
