Johann Georg Pascha's “Kurtze iedoch Deutliche Beschreibung handlend von Fechten auff den Stosz und Hieb” - 1661. Reinier van Noort – www.bruchius.com Presented here is a set of photographs taken from R4A668, held by the Leuven University Library as part of the Corble Collection . They are made available with the kind permission of the Library of the University of Leuven. The title of R4A668 is “Kurtze iedoch Deutliche Beschreibung handlend von Fechten auff den Stosz und Hieb” (“Short though clear description treating of fencing on the thrust and cut”). It was printed in 1661 by Melchior Oelschlegeln. While this treatise is usually ascribed to Johann Georg Pascha, his name does not appear anywhere in the book. On the title page the name Johan Georg Flach is given. At a cursory glance the text appears to be the same as that in Pascha's 1666 and 1673 treatises (both titled Vollständiges Fecht Ringe und Voltigierbuch”), though it is somewhat different from the text in his 1659 Kurtze Unterrichtung Belangend Die Pique, die Fahne, den Jägerstock, das Voltesiren, das Ringen, das Fechten auff den Stoß und Hieb, und endlich das Trinciren ”. The number of plates contained in R4A668 is smaller, and while they are similar in style, they are different from those in his 1666 and 1673 works. All photos were taken by Reinier van Noort of the School voor Historische Schermkunsten (SHS – School for Historical Fencing Arts).
