1. A VOICE FOR YOU IN THE WORKPLACETrade Unions are designed to help members have their say and become

involved in their own workplace. The CWU believes that you have the right toinfluence improvements in your working conditions and to have a say when

there are changes planned. Your union is your voice in the workplace.

2. BETTER PAY AND BETTER WORKINGCONDITIONS

Trade Union members are, on average, better paid and enjoy better workingconditions than non-union members. Unionised workplaces also enjoy better

working conditions, with unions frequently negotiating entitlements formembers that are over and above the statutory, legal minimum.

3. INDIVIDUAL ADVICE, GUIDANCE ANDREPRESENTATION

The CWU can provide advice, guidance and representation to you if you need todeal with a grievance or disciplinary procedure. This is an important service that

ensures your rights are respected and that you benefit from the guidance andadvice of an experienced trade union representative. Remember, you are

entitled to trade union representation in these proceedings whether or not youremployer recognises a trade union.

4. COURSES, EDUCATION AND TRAININGSERVICES

There are a wide variety of education and training services available to CWUmembers. Workers in unionised workplaces are also more likely to receive job-

related training. The CWU provides courses to help you learn new skills, improveexisting ones and develop your career and is committed to helping members

develop their confidence and ability through a programme of lifelong learning.

Allworkers have the right to equal opportunities and treatment and have theright to dignity at work.
