Ten things to consider when buying storage and

workshop equipment and furniture When you are about to make an investment in storage and workshop equipment, you are looking to improve the functionality of your business, so you need to make the right decisions before you purchase and alleviate expensive mistakes that you might not consider prior to purchasing.

1. Take time to research – It has been decided that your company needs a spruce. You’ve Googled the term you think applies and “they look nice!” Scant regard is given to weight capacities, worktop capabilities, drawer and door function and build quality. Almost immediately everyone knows that the investment that has been made is next to useless because of a rushed purchase and lots of money has been wasted on a whim.

2. Base buying decisions on value not cost - Always

insist on quality. Maybe you can make a saving on your equipment – a cupboard is just a cupboard, right? No it’s not. Long after you have forgotten what a bargain you thought you had bought, you will be wrestling with the cupboard doors or struggling to pull the drawers out on the plastic bearings that have worn away, or the anti-tilt system no longer works making your drawer cabinet a hazard. Spending a little bit extra on engineering superiority will save you money and distress in the future.

3. Ask if you don’t see a solution listed – you might not

see exactly what you require on this website, for instance, but we know that we are flexible enough to solve most relevant problems, as we have done for many years.

4. Preserve expensive building space – Wasted space is

expensive, your company pays rent and rates on every square foot. Make the most of your space with storage and workshop equipment custom designed allowing you utilise more of your work area.

5. Consider your staff’s standard operating procedures

– make a note of your operators’ working methods, are they stretching for components they regularly need? Are weights being lifted at awkward heights and being carried excessive distances? Do they spend too long searching for items? All these are the reasons for low productivity, staff morale and increased absences.

6. Don’t compromise your solution to work around

standard ranges – bespoke solutions can be much lower priced than you might think, due to only purchasing exactly what you need rather than space that can’t be fully utilised.

7. Make sure your investment actually increases

profits, not eats into them – your equipment will pay back many times over, if your performance, efficiency and staff retention are improved.

8. Have a complete design done for you up front,

before pricing and purchasing – before spending a penny, ask if your supplier can offer a full 3D layout and has experience in ergonomic design. A full layout will give you the best possible insight into the effectiveness of the design and give you a vital tool to bring to discussions with your colleagues, if you aren’t working unilaterally.

9. Keep track of expensive tools – when items only have

an approximate place, you can’t necessarily determine that they are missing. When they have a location that is not only exact, but is also palpably obvious that they are not in that location. As with all missing things, they are easier to find the sooner that their absence is noted.

10. Get your space fully surveyed – power supplies can

be obstructed, pipes or wires might obstruct your build. Our experienced design team will spot pitfalls before the installation, not during it. This avoids added expense often missed through having to move services, or modify the layout further.
