This mid-term review report intends to highlight the activities under taken by the National Women’s Committee during the period under review January 2013 – December 2014.

This report also highlights the some of the rights that women have attained as listed in the next slide.

District and District Branch committees in 2012, we have not been able to conduct training for the elected officials due to challenges faced by the committee and this has led to some committee members abandoning their positions.

BARCLAYS BANK WOMEN’S COMMITTEE

Participation in the International Women’s Day, individual districts made donations to various needy institutions like the Women’s Prisons, Hospitals and Orphanages.

Participated in this year’s Youth Day celebrations and made a donation of assorted goods to Liteta Leprosarium in Chibombo District

Lusaka District Women’s Committee in collaboration with the Informal Sector held a fund raising Tea Party, which was held at the ZUFIAW Training Center whose proceeds will be used to purchase assorted goods that will be donated to female prisoners at Chimbwakaila Prison.

ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN UNDER THE PERIOD OF REVIEW

The Ndola District Women’s Committee under the leadership of Sr. Majorie Mutale made a donation of cleaning materials and replaced the window mesh at Masala Clinic, the President, General Secretary and National Women's Committee Chairperson graced this occasion. They also held a gift exchange party which was a huge success.

During the period under review a number of Women Branch Committees were constituted in Lusaka District, however this activity has been hampered with apathy from the women and poor communication between some management and the union.

We are yet to reconstitute the women’s committee in L/stone after the retirement of the chairperson Ms. Lorraine Mwiinga and the subsequent transfers of the Vice chairperson and Secretary.

The Kitwe District Women’s Committee was dissolved as per the ZUFIAW Constitution, Article 6, Section I (iv)

DISTRICT BRANCH COMMITTEES PENDING RECONSTITUTION

On the international front the following ladies represented us at various fora:-

Ms. Maureen Mwanangweshi attended a SATUCC meeting that was held in South Africa

Ms. Majorie Mutale attended a Pan African Parliament Women’s Conference which was held in South Africa

Ms. Justina Kalobwe attended an ILO workshop on Promoting Trade unionism for decent work in the informal economy held in Kenya

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

Lack of follow up training program for the elected officials and rank & file members.

Apathy among the members. Promotions and transfers have also been a

challenge.

Lack of a specific budget line for women’s activities

CHALLENGES

To combat apathy we have devised a strategy of identifying women in the various institutions that are ready to take up the mantle of leadership and invite them to meetings, so far this initiative has proved to be working.

To conduct educational programs for the women at regular intervals.

To intensify the recruitment of members to include those that are in supervisory positions (amendment of the Recognition Agreements).

To promote interraction of our members on our facebook page

WAY FORWARD

On a sad note, we announce the death of the former Chairperson for the Luanshya District Branch Women’s Committee Ms. Majorie Ntanda who worked for Workers Compensation Fund Control Board and passed away on 3rd August 2014 MHSRIP.

OBITUARY

Last but not the least, we as NWC would like to thank our founding members for taking time off their busy schedules to be part of this conference, we are were we are because they fought for the attainment of our rights we as women are currently enjoying.
