Computer Science with PBL

Course Objectives: This year we will be exploring computer science with a project based learning emphasis. This means that students will be exploring Microsoft word, power point, excel and Google sketch up to promote critical thinking and problem solving skills. Students will also be learning a little bit about coding. Along with the computer science curriculum students will learn basic typing skills. Being able to properly type is essential to the advancing world. Class Materials: 1. One spiral notebook2. Pencils (Mechanical is fine.)3. Pens

Grades:40%: Projects 30%: Classwork/Project Check in’s20%: Quizzes10%: Participation Participation: Because participation is 10% of your grade, it is important to always arrive to class on time and prepared. Participation includes arriving on time, being prepared, thoughtful class participation, and good conduct.

Project Check in’s: Project check in’s will be assigned each week. It is important that you stay up to date with these check in’s so you are not behind with your final project.

Grading ScaleA-100-90%B-89-80C-79-70D-69-60F-below 60

Class Expectations: Show respect to all people.Respect other people’s property.Talk at appropriate times and use appropriate voices.Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.Obey all school rules. Be on time and ready to learn.

Class Room Consequences

If there is an issue in the class, the following will happen:

1. Verbal warning2. Phone call home3. Campus beautification during nutrition 4. Parent-teacher conference5. Meeting with administration, teacher,

parents and student

Absences If a student misses class, the student can redo classwork for homework.

ElectronicsThe use of cell phones or any other electronic devices is not allowed during class unless other wise noted. Please keep your cell phone in your backpack on the silent or off position.

Dress CodeI will be enforcing the dress code set forth by Wright Middle School. The dress code can be found at www.wrightms.org.

Conferences:There are scheduled parent teacher conferences that will happen for one week each semester. If you would like to set up any additional times to talk with me, please feel free to email me or call me to set up an appointment. I will make time to talk to you.
