Surf Rescue Certificate

• 15 Question Assessment Paper

• 10 Signals

• 100m Run - 100 Swim - 100 Run

• Board or Tube Rescue

• Patient Assessment

• 1 & 2 Person CPR


Bronze Medallion

• 20 Question Assessment Paper

• 10 Signals

• 200m Run - 200 Swim - 200 Run

• Board or Tube Rescue


• 1 & 2 Person CPR• MUST HAVE CERT II IN PUBLIC SAFETY (AQUATIC RESCUE)


Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)

• Bronze Medallion holders must have their Cert II

• If they do not

– 2007/08 – Completed “On the Job” component

– June 2006 – Cert II Assessment Paper – “Work Effectively in a Public Safety Organisation”

– Pre June 2006 – In depth Cert II Workbook


Advanced Resuscitation Certificate



• Oxygen Equipment Operation

• Use of Oropharyngeal Airway


Defibrillation Certificate



• Apply & Use defibrillator

• Describe safety precautions


Spinal Management Certificate

• Apply a spinal collar

• Participate in a spinal scenario


IRB Crew & SM - IRB Driver

• Theory Assessment Paper

• Present Logbook (5 hours) or complete practical assessment

• Drivers must have a current boating license– Original 5 year licenses have been expiring, so make sure

candidates have renewed their license

What is Silver Medallion - Basic Beach Management?

• Basic Beach Management is an award to reflect the values of Patrol Captain or Lifeguard – “Beach Managers”

Who needs SM – Basic Beach Management?

• From 1 January 2009 each patrol must have at least one person with the award, and it is expected that all Patrol Captains will have the award

SM - Patrol Captain credit transfer

• Anyone who completed their Silver Medallion - Patrol Captain since 1 July 2005 has automatically been accredited with their SM-BBM
